Saw Bryan Ferry in Concert...Interesting

There were several things that were interesting, actually. Bryan's 70 years old but this was not "old guy playing the hits with cheap backup band to cash in on nostalgia and make the house payments." It was a thoroughly enjoyable concert with an 11-piece band (probably didn't make much $$ on the tour), and he clearly enjoyed playing, performing, and didn't seem at all bored with playing his older songs. The audience was interesting, too...lots of people who probably weren't even alive when Roxy Music first hit. It was a little surprising because after all, not only is this Nashville, but he was never as big a star on this side of the Atlantic as he was in Europe.

Here's a shot of the group...

Bryan played piano a lot, as well as harmonica. Didn't realize how much of a keyboard player he is. His voice is made more for the studio than the stage, and he's lost a bit of an edge from his prime, but he had his "sound."

And although you can't tell from this photo, I was impressed he didn't try to cover up his gray hair, or the bald spot in the back of his head. He seemed pretty comfortable in his own skin, and IMHO, showed that you can age gracefully and deliver the goods. That was cool.

Roxy Music were a fine band :cool2:

Unfortunately, later on, Bryan Ferry fancied himself as a crooner/lounge singer, and that was when things started to go horribly wrong.

Then you probably would have liked the concert - there was a definite edge to it, and some surprises, like doing a couple Dylan tunes. The band definitely deserves credit, but Ferry was enjoying himself and rocking out...albeit stylishly :)
