Looks like he's modified the tape decks so he can pull the tape away from the heads and the capstan with a finger. I don't recognize the tape decks. I think that product is a hedge for when a renewed interest in "vinyl" starts to wane. But then, he has a guitar right next to it. He could attache the guitar to the box and take the act on stage.
