Members blue2blue
A young friend of mine turned me on to Devendra Banhart a few months ago. At the time, all I was able to do was get a quick snippet from a website. But he recently popped up on MusicMatch's On Demand subscription service. He sounds a little bit like a cross between Eliot Smith and the Incredible String Band with a big dollop of acoustic Tyranosaurus Rex on the side, and a lot of folks hear Nick Drake in there, too... but that doesn't really capture it. His first works were extremely lo fi... lot of hiss and distortion from pingponging on a four track... but they are often utterly compelling... even if they make Macy Gray sound like Anne Murray. Check him if you can. If he's on MMOD, there's at least a good chance he's on Napster and the rest... All Music Guide: Devendra Banhart
