Forum Perks.... Member Recognition - GeoSync

In an off topic thread I made a simple comment about how I had not managed to get my Sonar 5 PE and my Yamaha i88x connected and syncronized. I hadn't said it, but I couldn't even get the two to recognize the existence of one another. I was truly dreading the long drawn out process of trying to get everything figured out and not having a clue as to where to begin troubleshooting.

One of our forum members that is a Product Specialist (title?) from the Yamaha Corp noticed the post and sent me a private message offering assistance in helping to get me online with everything. He offered to call me and walk me through the process if I left my number for him. I responded and left my number. GeoSync called me back and spent well over an hour troubleshooting the setup.

Turns out the problem was an out of date driver that came packaged with the i88x. George provided the web address to the exact driver that was needed for my product and had me download a new driver for the unit. He had to end the call prior to the final process due to a scheduled meeting he had to attend, but left me with step by step instructions prior to exiting. IT WORKED!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks a billion George; you're a true gem.

...and here, you know everyone worth knowing :)

Way to go George!!

And while we're at it, props to all the other company product people who have helped us out in the past. Come to think of it, Yamaha people in general have been pretty helpful here.

The beauty of the whole thing is that I didn't have to call the company and talk to 20 different people to make it through to the "right guy' that knew what he was talking about.:thu:

Plus, to be quite honest, I was looking at it from the Sonar end of the configuration and not even questioning the i88x. George saved me a LOT of headaches and pulling my hair out in trying to determine where I needed to start looking for the missing link.

Sage advice.

When I updated system software, I found my Digital Performer wouldn't even open  crashed out during the opening of the app.

A quick trip to the MOTU website for the latest drivers, and ta-da, off and running.

If only all technical difficulties could be solved in 10 minutes (even with a 56k dial up):(

George can talk the talk, but here is one guy who can also walk the walk.

I thought George was full of it when I first met him in Charlotte. He was working in the keyboard department of Reliable Music.

He was full of himself - a big braggart, saying he'd done this and done that and knew this guy and played with another.

I stay away from most people who exhibit this type of hyped up personality.

But George is the real deal. He can back up what he claims and he does know his stuff.

Yes, he is one in a million.

Wow, I've always thought of George as full of energy and enthusiasm but not as full of himself. It's hard to know what impressions we leave with others.

Sometimes sharing can come across as bragging. I worry about that when I share things I've done. For example, at Dave's party the other night, I shared with Phil, Ken, and Mike something I did in college. I was trying to make the point that I was glad I listened to my parents and went to college because of what I was able to achieve because of it, but it could have come off as bragging. I hope not

Pull the trigger Dylan - it's a very cool interface with two very good preamps, and they come with lots of cool bundled software, and they're selling for STOOPID-LOW prices these days. :)

I couldn't agree more. Nowadays, an internet connection is pretty much required on the computer that functions as a DAW. I also suggest reading the release notes for drivers. Sometimes (though not often) the latest driver may not be a good option.

Are there any of you who DO NOT have an internet connection on your DAW computer?

Nope... mine's offline, and it will STAY offline. If I need drivers or software updates or anything of that nature, I use my dedicated Internet machine to do the D/L, scan for nasty bits (viruses and spy/adware) then burn it on a thumb drive or CD-R and sneakernet it over to the DAW, where it gets scanned again before I install it.

Trust me - when you rely on your DAW to be reliable for your day to day work / living, it's MUCH safer that way! :)

But I'm in complete agreement about it being a good idea to check for the latest drivers and software updates as well as reading all the "read me" files and paperwork BEFORE doing the install. :thu:

You wouldn't have go through all that if you were on a Mac. ;):p

I was looking into one of these myself.

I know you're a Yamaha guy Phil, are you still running the 01v96? Are the i88x pres the same?

This is pretty much the same thing that George told me. :thu:

I'm fairly new to all this DAW stuff; I'm used to hard disk recorders. I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks so bear with me when it sometimes takes me at least a couple of "tries" to get it right. :D

Well, if Master Yoda O'Keefe says that I should buy this, then dagnabbit I'll have to no matter what the wife thinks :D! Seriously though, I've been eying this model for quite some time as it seems like a worthy upgrade to my aging Echo Mona interface.

Thanks for your kind assurances, Phil, Ken, and Mike. And Mike, no way do you sound like you're bragging!
