who here thinks these ads are not only annoying, but utterly false statements made in every single one [aside from the webcams on the ibooks and imacs, which i could really care less as i dont have or want a webcam anyway... at least one on my machine... networked for security maybe]?

as someone who uses both machines i cant disagree more with these ads and they almost make me want to drop mac all together because of the ads.

i have owned macs for over a decade and been working on apples since they booted on microsoft.

what i find is sad about the commercials is they are falsely wooing people who will have the same problems on Macs as they do on PC's.

i remember a company in DC that always had to service all the production Macs, they were called MacMedics. this was back in OS7-9 days... OSX certainly hasnt made things more stable.

I like the commercials and hope they woo a lot of users over to the Mac Side!

Since it's typical of the rhetoric that usually spews from the BS artist Jobs, they have the opposite effect on me personally. I guess poeple that are uninformed and gullible by nature might get pulled in, but I don't even think that people who wanted to legitamitly switch will fall for those outdated sales pitch's. It's really kind of pathetic that Apple is still trying to peddle outdated false claims of yesteryear, kind of like a senile old man who keeps repeating himself regardless of how things are changing around him, in fact most Mac user arguments remind me of that. It almost seems like the ads are to reassure the uninformed existing cutomers somehow. The end result for me is the sense of that old musty smell and the reccuring nightmare of the $3,000 Apple bath I took in the mid 90's, and the sense of relief that I don't have to deal with the Apples/Dells/HP's or whatever anymore. Thank God.

I don't know whether the commercials are true or false or what. I usually expect that there's a bunch of spin and oversimplification whenever there's an obviously biased opinion anyway (commercials, politicians, etc.).

I was wondering if you or someone else could list several examples of B.S. that's in the commercials.

i was thinking about that... finding the 8 [i think] version that run and discounting them each individually... then it felt like time wasted instead of posting a general post.

basically, one was saying macs dont crash and pc's crash often. obviously this isnt the case, i have wanted to throw my mac out the window more often than my pc... i get more friends calling me asking about how to fix their macs then i get for pc.

the webcam thing mentioned above... who cares.

the new vista upgrade is the worst... OSX was a NIGHTMARE upgrade where i switched my most of my studio to PC over.

this is the best though:

iPorn!!! woo hoo.

oh this!

crash different.

priceless.

That was funny!

So yeah, I've dragged stuff from a data CD to the desktop, ejected the CD, and had the files disappear. Headscratcher. You have to drag 'em to another folder or drag 'em somewhere else again just to make sure that they are there. I didn't know that was a Mac thing - I just figured I {censored}ed up something or whatever (OS 9.2.2).

Anyway, that was funny!

Most of the time, my Mac is rock solid (same with my PC), but yup, it too crashes.

I think the ads are cute, and they do play up mostly outdated stereotypes. I don't defend their veracity, I just think I get a little giggle out of them. I think they casted the perfect guy to play PC. The Mac guy makes me want to slap him a little, but that's just my innate prejudice toward snotty 20-something hipsters. :D

I just watched the three Apple ads on the Apple website. I didn't catch anything misleading.

I've been a PC user / programmer / trouble shooter / installer since 1985.

That's 22 years of experience. It is the reason I HATE computers, and almost left the whole IT scene. Thank you Bill Gates.

My first Mac running OSX 10 is the only reason I still use a computer.

I was reading the thread waiting for that. I agree. The guy is likeable but... it's the passive aggressive, hipper than thou thing that I get to see everyday living in a So. Cal beach community. I can't get a cup of coffee in this town without running into a clone of this guy and his smirk.

He stands for all the BS I despise...

By running a Mac I'm actually reversing global warming

No animals were harmed in the production of this Mac

This Mac was lovingly assembled by an elf in emo's clothing

Boring, pathetic dreck.

Macs are just like a hammer or screwdriver. Tools.

Apple has spent so much time trying to align themselves with cool that they are now officially as bad as the beer advertisers. Buy this and get laid.

The ads bother me. I used Macs for recording and mixing for seven years before I took an office job that put me in front of a PC for 8 hours a day.

In the three years I've been sitting in front of said PC, anyone want to guess how many times it's crashed? Zero.

Every Mac I've ever worked on crashed. It is an expected part of being a Mac user. Every new mac that comes out looks hipper than the last, but I believe the company's best days are behind them. I believe the introduction of the Ipod and Itunes started it, but that's another thread...

I'm the type of guy who likes to find a system that works, and then use it until entropy reduces it to a pile of dust. I hate the computer culture today -the constant upgrading, the OS updates that cause all of your apps to go haywire. Why does it have to be this way?

That's why I still record and mix in Mac OS9, ProTools version 5. Bah Humbug.

Hey, I'm 100 miles north of you... you don't think it's worse here in LA county?

I think I see a clone of Mr. Mac guy at most of the Starbucks I enter. I have to fight the urge to knock him on his half-caf triple shot low fat soy mocha almond latteccino drinking ass, on pure principle. :D

I hate those Ads, I think its apple stooping as low as they can. Maybe during the Pentium 1 days, it would have been okay, but today?!!!!

Somehow I always felt that they got the demographics wrong. The PC guy should be the mac since clearly he has a stable job and can afford to get a overpriced mac. The MAC guy however seems like he is a typical gamer, builds his own rig or has a friend who builds it for him (to be able to get the rig he wants with minimum expenditures), uses pirated or borrowed software and probably hacks your e mails.

Of course, but there are plenty of people who won't be able to see past that. I see them echo'ed in Mac/PC debates aplenty to this day. Something Apple count's on.

Marketing presumably. BTW, I have the same system as you (9.2.2/PT 5.1 LE). I do have a dual-boot system with OS10.3.7, although I'm in 9.2.2 about 90% of the time).
