Members temnov
After reading some replies regarding Alesis I started counting what was there between 85-95 that I liked so much in my studio and what I'd like to use today. Some of items have a sentimental* value, you know. However, here is the list: Meyer HD-1 monitors Aphex Dominator II Orban acoustic processor - don't remember the model number Roland SN-700 Noise/Hum Eliminator* Yamaha SY-99 Korg Wavestation Eastern German made replicas of Telefunken AC-701 tube mike Octava mikes Alesis ADAT - just because there were first* Marshall JMP and Sans Amp pre-amps Yamaha SPX 1000 Sony DPS better to stop right now What would be on your list today? Members ultravibe
ART SGX 2000 - not so much for recording, but when I want to just practice in the headphones and want to hear some distortion, reverb, or whatever. Still sounds okay for just jamming.
Members UstadKhanAli
I still have my Rode NT2 (original one with the flimsy grill) from 1996. Oh, wait, that puts me a year over it. Okay, well, I still occasionally use Audio-Technica ATM 33R SDCs.
Members RockViolin
An easy one for me. Roland GP8 Guitar Effects Processor. 8 Boss stompboxes in a row only better. 128 preset patches at my feet via the fc100 controller. Only the delay and chorus are digital and I often bypass those. Likes to run it with a Sansamp Original on the send /return for recording. (Still sees a lot of use even with an Eventide GTR 4000, POD XT PRO, and a POD 2.3 hangin out.) If $$$ were really tight it would be the last of the 4 to go. All I ever really needed was my GP8!!!
Members meccajay
Opcode Vision(me too), Roland S-550(mono percussion samples), DIGITECH 3.6 "digital" delay, 4 track(for recording effects & TV samples).
Members tradivoro1
I still have my TX802... At one point i did SO much work with DX7s, and I still have this little machine that reminds of those days... I also have a casio FZ20M... and lest I forget, a roland U110... These are all machines that once meant a lot to me...

Members HCarlH
Alesis MMT-8, SR-16, Quadraverb+, ADA MP-1....they all get used. They are (kinda) vintage therefore they are better than the new crap out today.

Members the-good-way
Question - should it be technology specific to that time or just produced during that time?(If, say, I have an acoustic guitar of traditional design from that time -- but it isn't particularly "85-95" in any other respect, does that count?) Members EnemyofSilence
Hmm, well most of the stuff I bought back then is still integrated into my studio and in use! I chose stuff that was unique in some way, I'm glad I did. Synths - Korg DW-8000, Korg DSS-1, Korg Wavestation EX(and yes, I do now have the full compliment of KLC stuff), Yamaha TG33, Casio VZ10m drum stuff - Roland R5, Alesis D4, Roland Pad-80 (Octapad II) Other Midi - JL Cooper MSB+ Rev2, Yamaha MEP4 (still kickin ass) Rack Effects - Alesis Quadraverb+, Midiverb II, Ibanez DDL (no clue what model - it just works) Pedals - Ibanez SuperTube STL, TC Electronics Programable Phaser, Compression/Sustainer/Parametric EQ, Booster+Line Driver/Distortion I think that about covers the period in question oh, and I do have a Mac Plus that I run Sound Designer for DSS-1 on. Last man standing, I bet...
Members the-good-way
Korg DW-8000, Casio VZ10m I like those
Members EnemyofSilence
I like those The VZ was capable of some really complex sounds. Tis a bitch to program from the front panel (not helped by the dead lcd backlight on mine). It works well with my WX-11 wind controller too. the DW8000 (and DSS-1) have, imo, the best resonant filters Korg made. They're noisy as hell by today's standards, but they're fat as hell. Plus, I cut my teeth on those joysticks - I'm still clumsy as hell with wheels. Oh, and 20 years later I reeeally appreciate that they printed all the parameters on the front panel! Gus Lozada
Which I still own and use: * Roland's JUNO 60* AKAI's AX-60* YAMAHA's QY10 Still own, but collecting dust:* ALESIS HR-16B ... some other VERY old studio stuff -tape recorders, Eqs, FX processors, etc- are collecting dust at my mother's home. I guess I should sell that stuff one of these days, soon...
CMS Author MikeRivers Posted May 9, 2007 CMS Author Share Posted May 9, 2007 My Soundcraft 600 console and most of my mics. I guess my Sony PCM2300 DAT was from about that period and I still use that, though the TEAC DA-P20 no longer works. The reel-to-reel recorders are all pre-1985 as is, I think, the Sony TC-D5M, the only cassette recorder I still have that works pretty well. Same story with all of this stuff - it still works and I can't afford to replace it with anything new that's any better unless I make a radical change in function. Members offramp
An easy one for me. Roland GP8 Guitar Effects Processor. I thought I was the only person who remembered those. I had borrowed one for an extended period of time, back about '91. Loved it. Three things from the time that I still use, though not as much as I'd like to or maybe should: Ashly SC40 preamp. Does a damned good job on my Jazz bass. Alesis HR16. Fun. Best sounds of the time, too. Yamaha SPX90. The first one. One thing I wish I could still use: Korg Polysix.I have it, still, but the memory battery leaked and ate some of the circuitry. It's on my "to rebuild" list; unfortunately, it's on that list below the power supply for my ARP 2600. I have a spare Polysix, given to me a few years back, that work but looks like hell (mine looks almost showroom). I figure I'll use it for parts. Oh, I forgot: A Yamaha Overdrive pedal. Cat pissed on it, once. I took it apart and cleaned it, but it wouldn't work. Tossed it in a box, '95. Pulled it out of box, '05, fired it up. Sounds great. Go figure. One of the few pedals of the time that was designed to work with a tube amp. I tried it on a few solid states, and it just made things worse. Members Kendrix
Boss SE 50 SE 70 effects - for the distinctive long reverb tails. Ensoniq KS32- still holds some of my fav pad and key sounds. Original Beringer Composer MDX2100 compressor. The ones manufactured in germany prior to moving operations to China are actually quite good devices. They sold for over 500 bucks at the time and got great reviews. I have a newer model produced in China- its not even close. SM58, SM57AT 4033- Still gets used at times. KRK 7000B monitors. You can see em in many studio porn pics. BBE maximizer. I rarely use it these days. However, there are occasions when its the perfect processor. Now Im thinking about the list of stuff from that era that i no longer use and that I have been to lazy to try and sell.
Members offramp
My Alesis Micro Limiter. It rocked on bass then, it rocks on bass now. Forgot about that. I have one, and a MicroEnhancer.
