Members UstadKhanAli
Hey, I'm looking for some sort of book that clearly and effectively covers Pro Tools 8's Elastic Time and Elastic Pitch. I'm having trouble grasping the Warp Function in Elastic Time in particular, even after viewing a YouTube demonstration on this very function. I'm able to do everything else in Elastic Time, but making minor adjustments to individual parts of a track using the Warp Function still seems to elude me. I may as well get a book that covers Pro Tools 8 since it's a major upgrade anyway. Thanks for any recommendations you may have. I've seen this so far, but am not sure how good it is:http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tools-Kit-professional-production/dp/0240811151/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258994382&sr=1-3 I really like John Keane's books on Pro Tools but he does not seem to have one on Pro Tools 8. Members UstadKhanAli
Here's some more Pro Tools 8 books. If I can't make up my mind, I'll probably get the PT8 Ignite since I've had pretty good luck with the previous ones. http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tools-8-Ignite-First/dp/1598638866 http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tools-Power-Comprehensive-Guide/dp/159863898X/ref=pd_sim_b_3 If you have a recommendation, though, please let me know. The two you listed in the quote above haven't been released yet, Ken. Personally, I've been waiting for the sequels to the books I have: Pro Tools 7 Power! and Pro Tools 7 Overdrive!; but I have to admit that I'm getting tired of waiting. How long has it been since PT8 was released? There's certainly been plenty of time to write a book -- especially if you're just updating a previous title. Members UstadKhanAli
The two you listed in the quote above haven't been released yet, Ken. Details, details. Exactly. My first link is actually available. Whether it's any good or not, I don't know. Finding that one is actually what inspired this thread. Okay, that and not being able to use the Warp Function properly.
Members Geoff Grace
Whether it's any good or not, I don't know. Nor do I. But it did get a five star review from one customer. That's not much to go on though... Of course, there's always Digidesign's own (or should I say Avid's?) Pro Tools 101 Official Courseware, Version 8 and Mike Collins's Pro Tools 8: Music Production, Recording, Editing and Mixing. The Collins book received great reviews from industry professionals, but it disappointed Amazon readers who wanted a book about PTLE 8. (Apparently, it's about HD exclusively.) Good luck, Ken. Members UstadKhanAli
Actually, that sounds cool, but for now, I think I'll have to get a book.
Moderators Lee Knight Posted November 24, 2009 Moderators Share Posted November 24, 2009 Ken... I've bought and read a lot of books on Pro Tools over the years. A lot. But I've never picked up the Digi Pro Tools 101 Official Courseware 101. I browsed through it the other day in the store and was very surprised to find that it was intuitive and very informative. If I were you I'd swing by Barnes and Noble and browse through it before you buy. I think you might find it's what you're looking for. http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tools-101-Official-Courseware/dp/1598631543
Members UstadKhanAli
You can sift through the pages in Amazon, a really nice feature, and it does look surprisingly good. Thanks.
