Sad news: Ken Russell the great English director of many musical films, such as Tommy, Lisztomania, The Music Lovers and many more, died in his sleep on Sunday.:cry:

 

He and I had just exchanged comments on FACEBOOK on Saturday. :eek:

Some of you will prove your WHO cred by stating that you liked the origibnal THE WHO's album better than the movie, ;) but that {censored}ing movie MADE my whole adolescence. :love: This movie was doing MTV material before there was an MTV.

RIP, Mr Russell.

 

 

It's nice he died in his sleep, I guess, but it's so out of keeping... he did every else so large... I haven't seen all his movies, by a stretch, but I remember being knocked out by The Devils, which, if I recall, was the first Ken Russell movie I saw and was quite different from his over-the-top celebrations of the composers or the goofy excess of Tommy. Not that it wasn't quite over-the-top in its own, dark way. A hell of a director who made up the rules he played by.
