Turned up my collar to the early snows.

My first ride took me clear across the Poconos.

The tenth ride took me through the Cumberland Gap

with a song in my heart and a Baptist on my lap.

 

A woody full of hippies swung me north across the Ohio.

It makes no sense to hurry, no one cares where you thought you oughta go.

When you've made it past Ohio and Indiana, too,

you know that any place in the world but Fort Wayne will do.

 

Corn stalk stubble stretched far as I could see.

The wind chilled Missouri, and it surely chilled me.

Spent my last dollar in a diner down 66 South.

I can't speak very highly of living hand-to-mouth.

 

I saw an old western once, and I swore someday I'd join a wild west show,

got me teeth reconfigured outside a rodeo.

It'll take my whole life to forget the Alamo.

If Texas is heaven, Christ, I just won't go.

 

Midnight transit 'cross the Great Divide

with a speedfreak in a Fairlane with a jug of Gallo snuggled by his side.

Crossed a flight of Angels when I reached the Pacific Palisades.

They opened with clubs and I paid in spades.

 

The radios were dreamin' Californ-eye-yay

and never had to wake up to the dark of day.

the day you started on the road to the Promised Land.

Cool man, I would have dropped a few words here a there.

 

I took out my guitar and messed around with it, gave it some breathing room, picked up the pace a bit.

You need to get a bridge in there before the chorus where ever that many.

 

You can do what you want to it, take my advice or leave. I cool either way.

 

You remind me a bit of Robbie Robertson. I'm spicin it and giving it a little Levon Helm and Ryan Adams attitude

 

Between me and my buddy we have written 1000's of songs, rarely do we work together. I'm never made a dime on a song. My buddy got 9.99 last month for some tune that got played some were in Europe. Took him 40 years.

 

I just mess around and have a few songs going at a time. I don't care if I make a dime.

Try it or don't, I'm good either way.

Am C G D Am C G G Then Am C G D Am Am DD then I held on to the D for a bit as I worked into what I call the chorus.

So I keeping my eye on you too.

 

Remember to think in parts.

 

Don't blow your load in one some, breathing room and changes in rhythm.

I don't want to feel like I'm at the guitar center on some Saturday more
