Members tony333
Was out riding around in the truck the other day and out of no where came these lyrics. I like it so far and its pretty “finished”. The last chorus took a little different direction that I wasnt expecting. When I hear it in my head it is just acoustic and a fiddle. World Be Gone In the sullen breezes of southern Virginiathe place that I call homeLives a girl i gave my love toThe one I call my own Her hair is dark as ravens wingsSmile could light the skyher eyes they hold the sorrowof a hundred years gone by We were married on a Tuesdaydown at the local jailin a borrowed suit, her grandma's dressa lace and chiffon veil I left on the next daymusket in my handmarching North to meet the yanksand save our families lands All I ask the Lord aboveis to let me walk back homelay m head down in her armsand let the world be gonePlease make the world be gone I've never been a cowardBut I wont say I wasn't scaredcannon balls and general's screamswhistling through the air Men fell like harvest wheatBlood spilled on the groundEvery time I close my eyesI see those dead mens sounds All I ask the Lord aboveIs let me walk back homeLay my head down in her armsLet the world be gonePlease make the world be gone The Yanks just kept comingWe were outnumbered one to ten.a shot rang out i did not hearwill bring me to my end I lay in this killing fieldstaring up at the sunwonderin about my one true loveand how soon ill be gone All I asked the Lord aboveis to let me walk back homelay my head down in his armslet the world be goneplease make the world be gone In the sullen breezes of southern Virginia
Members Delmont
If the rest comes together (voice, instruments, tune, chords), it'll work!
Members tony333
So I recorded this awhile back. I don't know a fiddle player so it's just me and my guitar . Simple strumming and my not good voice. But it's mine, so.... Listen to World Be Gone by thenry333 #np on #SoundCloud
Members Delmont
Great sound. You're almost there. Questions: - Why did a soldier get married in a jail? How did he get out? - If you outnumbered the Yanks ten to one, how could they keep coming? Other than that, it holds together well. Nice work! Members tony333
Thanks for the encouraging words. The line is " we were out numbered 1 to 10". I know it is an odd phrasing but I think it's correct in the idea. The married at the local jail comes from me watching the Hatfields and McCoys mini series where the jail was the courthouse as well. That was in small town WVA so I figured the same was true for those small southern VA towns bordering WVa. Especially back then. At least that was the thought process. I like the simple strumming pattern cause it was almost like a slow steady march.
Members Delmont
. . . The line is " we were out numbered 1 to 10". . . . There's no "We were." So without punctuation, it doesn't mean that. With a period after ten, it would.
