Ready Aim Fire

This is my latest song called 'Ready, Aim Fire!'.

It is inspired by the events of the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin Ireland...the 100 year anniversary of which is approaching very shortly.

It tells the story of the Rising from the point of view of the Irish rebels against the British army- from their ideological beginnings to taking over the General Post Office on one of the main streets of Dublin as part of their Rising. It continues on to explain their surrender, capture and ultimate deaths for their beliefs and vision for a free Ireland. I thought it was important to touch on the fact that the Irish people immediately after the Rising were disgusted by the rebels and blamed them for destroying their beautiful city but as these rebels were shot by British firing squads, support for them grew and the public's opinion changed.

I hope you enjoy!

Paul :)

Here are the lyrics:

This is our country,

Our land and our home,

We'll fight for the freedom,

To rule it alone.

It is not so easy,

Our voice is held down,

By armies and soldiers,

In the name of the crown.

We've tried this before,

And we'll try it again,

It's time for a battle,

We'll fight til the end.

Post office headquarters,

There'll be no post today,

For the freedom of Ireland,

We'll stand in the way.

CHORUS

And the voices rang out,

As the flames grew higher,

The order was heard,

Ready, Aim, Fire!

Ready, Aim, Fire!

Ready, Aim, Fire!

We fought til the last,

But our time is here,

The white flag was flown,

Out of mercy not fear.

We're taken away,

Pelted and blamed,

By people who will,

Soon be chanting our names.

The jail is cold,

A firing squad waits,

In a bare prison yard,

To settle our fates.

But remember our names,

For in time you'll see,

That we were right,

Our vision will come to be.

And the voices rang out,

As the flames grew higher,

The order was heard,

Ready, Aim, Fire!

Ready, Aim, Fire!

Ready, Aim, Fire!
