"The G.I. Jive," by Johnny Mercer.

Hugely popular on jukeboxes and concert stages during World War II, this song took multiple rhymes to a whole new level.

This is the G. I. Jive,

man alive.

It starts with the bugler blowin' reveille over your bed

when you arrive.

Jack, that's the G. I. Jive.

Rootley-toot,

jump in your suit,

make a salute.

Voot!

After you wash and dress,

more or less,

you go get your breakfast in a beautiful little cafe

they call "The Mess"

Jack, when you convalesce.

Outta your seat,

into the street,

make with the feet

Reet!

If you're a P-V-T, your duty

is to salute to L-I-E-U-T.

But if you brush the L-I-E-U-T

the M-P makes you K-P on the Q-T

This is the G. I. Jive,

man alive.

They give you a private tank that features a little device called

"fluid drive."

Jack, after you revive,

chuck all your junk

back in the trunk,

fall on your bunk

Clunk!

Soon you're countin' jeeps

but before you count to five

Seems you're right back doin'

that G. I. Jive!

"Comin' in On a Wing and a Prayer," another popular song from World War II, written by Jimmy McHugh (music) and Harold Adamson (lyric).

Ry Cooder's LP Boomer's Story (1972) was full of great songs like this one.

This one has a Rhino vibe to it, what with the trombone and all...

:)

I love some Cooder.

I watched the Keith Richards doc on netflix yesterday. It was interesting. There wasn't anything in it I didn't already know, but it was cool watching he and Stanley Jordan talk about what got them excited and hearing his band jam in the studio.

Have I posted any Greg Brown before? If not, my bad -

Yeah, just a croaky baritone folky, but hidden in the homespun is a true poetic gift methinks:

I love Greg Brown!

I watched the movie Love and Mersey this week - brian wilson story. It focuses most on Wilsons struggle. Wow if that stuff is all true it just goes to show there are snakes everywhere and ya always got to be on the look out. I am referring to Wilson's shrink.

The studio scenes by the younger wilson were excellent. Then and i found this video on you tube and wow of the real deal - what friggin talent.
