I wish I wasn't writing this, but the truth is that I have been battling problems with my hands for the last year. I just got back from the Mayo clinic and they couldn't really help me. So here is my last chance. I am turning it to you guys. The Mayo clinic said I don't have arthritis. My nerve and muscle tests came back fine so I am just out of ideas. I am going to describe whats going on so I hope this helps, and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. Here it goes.....

I had a job last year for about 3 months doing fast pace production work. I spent a lot of time grasping scraping type tools. Also lifting about a hundred 45lbs. metal objects. My hands were stiff in the mornings to were I couldn't make a fist. Warm water loosened them up though. Once I quit, my hands got less stiff in the mornings and now my index and middle finger don't get stiff at all. However about a year ago I noticed my pinky fingers on both hands making a jerky motion when bending a the nuckle. I was alarmed so I stopped playing guitar for about 4-5 months. During this time the jerky motion got worse and also moved to my ring finger. Now when i wake in the morning my ring and pinky are stiff. When i bend them at the nuckle they go so far and then kinda pop down. The Mayo clinic didn't think it was trigger finger. They thought it was the tendon on the top of my pinky slipping over the nuckle groove which it glides on. This would cause some of this but since it has moved to my ring finger I just don't believe that to be whole problem. They also mentioned that my ulnar nerve may be agravated in some way. This is the nerve that runs to your pinky and index finger and also the one that you bump in your elbow that hurts like hell. I am so sick of the burning sensation I get in my nuckle area as well as on the back side of my hand and upper arm. More than that I am missing my guitar playing. If any of you can help me or have had simular problems please help. This is no good spot to be in life. Thanks

I find it strange that they said you dont have arthritis. My girlfriend of 4 (she's 22 now) years was diagnosed a few years ago with Junior Rheumatory Arthritis, and she experiences the exact same kind of pain in her hands as you do. Is there noticable pain anywhere else, such as your hips or maybe swelling around other joints? They had her on Methyltrexate to help with some of the arthritis pain. It seemed to work, except it would make her somewhat sick once a week (methyltrexate doubles as a chemo drug for cancer patients).

Anyway, I know how it can be dealing with chronic pain, and how most people dont understand how hidden handicaps can affect people. I hope everything works out, just keep getting more opinions from doctors.

I had this.

put your right thumb in your left armpit. reach your fingers around

onto your back keeping your thumb in your pit. where your

finger tips are is the spot. Same for the right side.

massage here...a little above....a little below. also right in the pit.

i bought a homedic massager only after spending 1000's on know

nothing docs.

a good unconventional massage guy worked these areas for about an hour 2 times in 10 days. He felt he knew the Magic

Spot and was in fact correct. He healed me. Amen.

I had suffered and was in mental anguish for a year. I am now

98% a-ok and can PLAY GUITAR AGAIN.

Look.....it worked. if ya want more detail email me and i'll give ya my phone #. who knows. this could be your fix.

i have felt yout pain.

later

Sure, you've still got lots of options:

Get a second opinion (or a third, or a fourth). Different docs can have widely differing views and experience, even in the same field.

massage (the real kind, not the hooker kind)

Acupuncture

Acupressure

chiropractor

physical therapist

The point is, take it upon yourself to investigate different pathways until you find the one that works. Don't give up just because some fancy clinic failed at their job. Even famous doctors don't know everything, especially about medicine. :D

Good Luck,

KP

if you think the problem is your tendons, cartilage, or joints, try taking gloucosomine complex with MSM. i have tendonitis in my wrists. it got so bad that i was wearing a brace on them and there were times i couldn't play guitar. someone told me to try this stuff and now i swear by it! i haven't had any pain other than mild, lasting a day or 2 since i started taking it. the only reason i had any pain at all is because it doesn't hurt chronically anymore, so i don't take all the time. when it starts to hurt, i take it for a few days and it goes away. today i've strained them and they will hurt tomarrow, and i know that, so i'll take it tonight and for the next few days. it's worth a try. you can get it anywhere.

Glucosamine sulfate is recommended, and you might also consider that your electrolytes may be out of balance. Try some Gatorade or other electrolyte supplement particularly if you have been working a muscle group pretty heavily. Go get a second (or third) opinion from a hand specialist. Good luck, and please keep us informed. Boggs
