Post 'em. All are welcome. You! Under the rock! Lurker!!!!! Post 'em.

Nilsson's voice, Randy Newman's piano and song. I keep singing along with Harry in my car trying to get my voice to do that. There's something about Harry. Oh... and hey, it's 3 and a half minutes long fer-gods-sakes!!! If you haven't heard this, you should. All the way through, it's one of those. Just relax. Where you off to anyway. Just listen...

Love Story

I like your brother

I like your mother

I like you

And you like me too

We'll get a preacher

I'll buy a ring

We'll hire a band

With an accordion

A violin

And a tenor who can sing

You and me you and me, baby

You and me you and me you and me, baby

You and me you and me you and me, baby

You and me you and me you and me, baby

We'll have a kid

Or maybe we'll rent one

He's got to be straight

We don't want a bent one

He'll drink his baby brew

From a big brass cup

Someday he may be president

If things loosen up

You and me you and me, baby

You and me you and me you and me, baby

You and me you and me you and me, baby

You and me you and me you and me, baby

I'll take the train into the city

Ev'ry mornin'

You may be plain - I think you're pretty

In the mornin'

And some nights we'll go out dancin'

If I'm not too tired

Some nights we'll sit romancin'

Watching the Late Show by the fire

When our kids are grown

With kids of their own

They'll send us away

To a little home in Florida

We'll play checkers all day

Until we pass away

So I was trying to finish tracking a version of

last night. I had already laid down the drums, bass and organ, which sound vaguely like this. I was mostly playing guitar, the song has four choruses: laid out the first chorus, used the neck pickup and the rhythm channel on the amp to play something like
for the second chorus, switched to the bridge pickup and the lead channel to play something like
for the third chorus, and then switched back to the neck pickup and the rhythm channel for some of this. Then I added the vocal, which was something like this.

Why this combination of elements? They're all influences, aren't they?

We've been fighting about Bon Iver in GJ for the last couple of months. The discussion over there is much more heat than light, but even after a couple of sincere attempts I must admit, I just don't get it. However, your comment: "It isn

Loving every single "influence" posted this date. Every one!

Quick question: Does Utah "the friendly 'Beehive State'" have a primary this month? 'Cause if the G.O.P. contest goes to a convention this summer, we'll once again hear words like these!

"We gotta tell this country about Utah . . . 'cause nobody seems to know."

Along with "Caroline" (Randy Newman's best-ever ballad) THIS one's my favorite song from that Nilsson Sings Newman album. Thanks for the memories, Lee!

^^^ Great song... and... what a voice. I'm, once again, on a 100% Nilsson jag.

Without Her. Not Without You, which was a Peter Ham/Badfindger song. Another Nilsson cover. But Nilsson wrote great tunes too. He was a young demo singer and a staff writer before being an artist. He wrote for Phil Spector, Little Richard, Three Dog night, The Monkees. And himself.

This song grows on you. Like Bach. Clearly an influence here...

I spend the night in a chair thinking she'll be there

But she never comes

And I wake up and wipe the sleep from my eyes

And I rise to face another day

Without her, do do do...

It's just no good anymore when you walk through the door

To an empty room

You go inside and set a table for one, it's no fun

When you have to spend a day

Without her, do do do...

Without her, do do do...

We burst the pretty balloon took us to the moon

It's such a beautiful thing

But it's ended now

And it sounds like a lie

I said I'd rather die than live without her

Without her

Love is a beautiful thing when it knows how to swing

And it moves like a clock

But the hands on the clock tell the lovers to part

And it's breaking my heart

To have to spend a day without her, do do do...

Can't go on without her

Without her, I can't go on

Without her, I can't go on

Without her, I can't go on

We burst the pretty balloon took us to the moon

It's such a beautiful thing

But it's ended now

And it sounds like a lie

I said I'd rather die than live without her

Without her

Without her, do do do...

It's so wrong without her

Can't go on

I spend the night in a chair thinking she'll be there

But she never comes

And I wake up and wipe the sleep from my eyes

And I rise to face another day

Without her, do do do...

Can't go on without her

There's no song without her

It's all wrong without her

Can't go on

I can't go on (without her)
