Members Oswlek
Edit: Tame updated: http://picosong.com/FMxy EDIT 3: Tamer snare: http://picosong.com/FinN EDIT 2: http://picosong.com/FrvvDetails on new mix in past #65 of page 4. ------------------------------------ EDIT: OK, I found a new snare and painstakingly went through, automating velocity and selecting between different strikes, trying to react to the song more. Doing so made me notice several dozen strikes that were unnecessary, and they have been removed. I also separated all the drums and did some early mixing with EQ and compression. I think I'll need to automate the reverb in certain calm spots, but I haven't gotten that far yet.For the most part, the fills are the same, though the sparse part is different and they all sound different since it isn't the same snare strike all the time.Am I finally on the right track or has it really been the beat all this time? Or am I just clueless?http://picosong.com/F8BT--------------------------------------------Vocal and guitar are literally first takes, though I think a lot is usable in both. Found a drum beat that I thought was pretty cool with the tune. The main gist of it stays the same thoughout, but I played with the hihat open/close timing to get some variance. Other than some crash accents that I plan to add, are there any spots that I need to shake the beat up a bit? After listening with the headphones backwards, I am going to swap the panning on the acoustic and tremolo electric tracks. Also planning on adding some harmonies/dubbed vox, piano chord accents, bass and some choice electric picking. Any other suggestions? Edit2: Most recent mix - http://picosong.com/FErnEDIT: Very little real mixing done. EQ was very quick, reverb is plate and not finely tuned. No mastering at all. As usual, this is really just a sketch. Moderators Lee Knight Posted May 22, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 22, 2013 Sounding cool. And idea to take or leave. The drum beat feels right but is too substantial to be so busy. I'd create a rhythm track strategy. Here's one recipe. Use the existing drum track you have but run it through a resonant filter. Turn the cutoff way up to like 500 or 1k. That means that drum track will now serve as a high hat of sorts. Now play in some simple yet great sounding kick and snare. Full fidelity. In other words, thin out the drum loop and then add very simple (yet with some mild syncopation in the kick to mirror bits of your loop, only simpler) and a basic 2 and 4 snare

I'm listening again and I think the problem might be rooted in my open/close hihat stuff. I thought the beat was too simple and needed some pieces of flair, but I probably overdid it. If you ignore the that HH action, is it still too busy? How about from C2 on, does that sound good? It does to me, but I'm a novice when it comes to perc stuff. Moderators Lee Knight Posted June 15, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 15, 2013 I can't listen right now Justin but I'm looking forward to it. But regarding getting your bass to speak on small speakers, try boosting at about 700 - 900 Hz. Another cool thing to try is to boost the frequency of your EQ around 125 and go ahead and pan through the different frequencies and listen to the response of your speakers to find out what they will reproduce them what they won't. You might find that there's a frequency like say, 150 or 175 that just makes that particular bass part pop out a little speakers. You don't want to go crazy and completely hose up your cool sound on big speakers but the little nudges like that can really open up low-end on different systems. Moderators Lee Knight Posted June 17, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2013 I'm really liking the drum balance and feel now. Very nice. It sounds great. It sounded really good to me before. But now it sounds great to my ears. Nicenicenice.
