TOP OCTAVE SYNTHESIZER ANALOG TONE GENERATOR DIY

 

The TOS Select/Divider board produces a square wave output consisting of tones 1 through 85, C1 through C8, and is driven by the hard-to-find MO82B1 Top Octave Synthesizer IC. CD4024 CMOS divider ICs are then used to divide down the 12 tones. Connection to each set of tones is made through dual, 7-pin headers. The TOS IC is clocked via a 2meg crystal, and through the CMOS NAND gates and dual-D flip-flop, the entire output can be shifted down one octave or up one octave simply by the use of a user-supplied momentary push button. This is achieved by using a CD4017 sequencer to select the 3 octave states (-1, 0, and +1) and the button is debounced using the 555 timer chip.

 

Power supply requirements:

1) +12 regulated VDC at 500mA (Buss A1)

2) +12 unregulated VDC at 500mA (Buss B)

3) +5 regulated VDC at 100mA (Buss A3)

(Note: Buss A1 and Buss B could be combined if regulated and supplied at 1 amp.)

 

The board has been fully tested but never actually used. It was originally designed to add strings to a Hammond organ, but unfortunately the project was cancelled due to funding. The printed circuit board measures 8.8” by 4.462”. It comes with all the ICs , one set of twelve 7P connectors and one 2P (highest C) connector for the tones, a 4P Molex for the control connector, schematic and PCB layout. All the connectors come with crimp-on pins. Please feet free to ask me questions.
