Selling a RARE LeDuc U-Bass

The U-Bass

For those who don’t know, these U Basses cost approximately start at $5000 directly from LeDuc not including taxes, international shipping and foreign transaction fees. When I ordered my bass in 2003, there was a one year wait list and I paid approximately $5500 for it. It’s been in a clean, smoke free environment, barely played over the past 5 years. I’m hoping someone will put the bass to good use and gig with it. I’ll be sad to see it go. PLEASE NO TRADES.

 

Condition

The bass is in great overall condition. It has some minor scuffs to the finish from normal usage. I recently had it taken to a qualified local luthier to check all aspects of the set up to ensure it’s in the best condition possible. Truss rod and bridge height adjustments were made.

 

The Sound

If you’re interested to hear how it sounds, I created a youtube video to give you an idea of the approximate sounds you can get out of this versatile bass.

 

Don’t mind my playing in the video. Note that currently the strings on the bass are round wound. I have experimented with flat wound strings on the bass in the past, to get more of a upright hybrid sound. I like the sound and feel, however I noticed a decrease in volume output, so I stayed with round wounds.

"U"-BASS, ( Semi-Acoustic, Fretless ) the other bass :

 

The "U"BASS is a semi-acoustic instrument, completely new and

original. Its name etymology is the same as that great world :

"UTOPIA", the search for a new way of life. Identicaly, the

U-Bass represents a new age for the bass, for the instrument

design and for the way to play it ! It is made to produce a very

realistic upright bass sound, for the ears as well as under the

fingers. The dynamics are so great that you can imagine many ways

to play. One consequence : no volume knob on the fretless because

everything can be managed between you fingers and the strings. To

be very precise, the upright bass sounds are so diversified that

it would not be possible to imitate them all, so our goal was not

to copy the upright sound , but to give the musician an overall

chance to really play in an acoustic way. The " Free floating

soundboard " and its asymmetrical bridge are internationaly patented.

 

The soundboard manages the mecanical energy you apply to the strings, reduces

the buzzes, increase the sustain when needed. It works as an

expander that highlight the subtelties of what you play. On the

fretless "U"bass, the "Free floating soundboard" is made of Red

Cedar and the body is mahoganny, the canadian maple supports a 95

years old Rio Rosewood fingerboard, These trees have been cut

down at the end of the 19° century !!!
