Hi all,

As Christmas is coming & my son wished for a drum kit but I have no clue about these products.

Checked out on some websites & I've got few concerns:

- Roland & Yamaha are popular brands, which is better?

- Between drum pad and drum set, which I should buy for beginners & also good for expert practising later?

- Compared the price on Amazon for eg:

http://www.electronicdrumkitreviews....spd-30-review/

the drum pad is way cheaper & portable but how about the quality, is it worth?

Please tell me your advises, I'd very appreciate it!

Are you asking for electronic drums?? Roland AND Both Yamaha are good choices! The Yamaha that is set up more like a real kit may be more worth it over the Roland combo kit?? What is it that your son want the drums for? Playing in a band? Practice? Sound effects and background music for his computer videos??? Roland versus Yamaha e-drums is very much like Windows Vs Macintosh?? Both are leaders in what they do and both are the upper tier of the e-drum market. A drum pad is wise for someone that has never ever played drums at all, Plus the VERY BEST thing for a totally new drummer is DRUM LESSONS!! Just like a new driver and driving school, Drum lessons teach the new drum student how to start, holding the sticks, rudiments, stick control, one on one lessons etc. if nothing more than to start with. Please write back and give us more info on what you need and we will all try to help! Welcome!

Here is a review I did on the Roland TDK-1 last year:

and another on the Pearl E-Pro Live (if you are looking for something that looks like a full kit, but the benefits of the quietness of electronics):

I have a yamaha review I am working on now. Either way, they are all great kits that are well made. There are few shortcomings with any of them these days.

Hope that helps.
