Members Kin_Corn_Karn
I've heard great things about Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials. Lessons are never a bad idea either if prices in your area are ok.
Members ermghoti II
For hands, look no farther than the JoJo Mayer DVD, it starts from the very beginning, and ends at ZOMFGWTF!? You can learn grooves easily enough from a book with a CD, and I find the foot motion a lot less complex than the hands. But yeah, schedule at least a few lessons, it'll make life a lot easier. Even a month or two will make a big difference. Speaking as another guitarist that picked up drums, I almost ruined my wrists due to a bad grip. I'd have quit if I didn't start lessons. Members turdadactyl
Definitely start with Tommy Igoe Groove Essentials, but get some lessons on basic technique.
Members agogobill
Ditto with all the replies. Groove Essentials is a good starter. I can't emphasize enough to get some basic lessons so that someone can see that your posture and grip are correct, and hear how you hit (this is covered very well in the Jojo Mayer DVD, but it would be good for someone to hear you).
