Members Sherman90
So I missed out on that amazingly sweet '57 RI Precision. Damn. I'm now considering a 1983 Fender American Standard P Bass. All indications point to it being from a Fullerton - produced December '83. If this is in good shape with the original case (and assuming I like playing it ), what do you guys think a fair market price would be? And a great market price? I just don't know much about the more sought-after Fenders from the 80s.
Members tinfish
don't simply assume that fender didn't produce some turds in the '80's. if it's MIJ, you're safe. if it's usa, make sure you give it a good shakedown. this era's mij basses are among the best ever to have fender decals on the headstock, but at the same time, american quality was quite spotty (with the exception of the fullerton custom shop)
Members Thumper
Early '80s MIJ Fenders are great basses, as are early '80s MIA reissues. An early '80s MIA standard P is a different animal compared to the MIA reissues of the same era. The reissues have a flatter radius to the fretboard, for one. Fender still made some pooches in the early '80s, so a Fullerton Fender may (or may not) be a decent bass. Play before you buy if you can.

Members Sherman90
Thanks very much, gentlemen. I'll look more closely into whether or not this was manufactured at the Fullerton factory. Appreciated.
