Members Sonic1
A question from Mr. Mow got me thinking. I've noticed that most guitarists bring backup instraments to their gigs, but maybe not so much for bass players. Lord knows we got extra basses. So do you? If so, is it for a different setup (flats, pickups, droptune) or just in case your primary {censored}s the bed and you don't want to blow a gig? Members Taustin Powers
I usually don't. Haven't had a string break on me during a show for a long time. And if it does happen, it takes me like 1 minute to change the string.
Members Warrn
I tend to, but I don't know why I bother. I've never broken a string and my basses tend to be very reliable and in perfect working order. I guess I bring an extra just in case of a freak accident? Or if I randomly decide to change things up. Members dert_stylus
I never have, but after reading some of the post in the previous threads. I may start to bring one.
Members ModmanQ6
I didn't in the past, but now I take my 5 string fretless. Perhaps I'll just want to play it or not for whatever song..., but it's there in case I need it. Hell, I could play the entire night on it if the mood hits me. It adds a variation on the sound for most of the songs and gives them a little twist.
Members mlwarriner
unless i'm feeling extra lazy, yes i bring a spare. and it's nothing different, really. my main bass is a fretted 5, strung BEADG. my backup is a fretted four, strung BEAD. and there's usually spare strings in my gigbox. Members bnyswonger
I bring two different basses for different sounds - fender and EUB. I can't afford a spare EUB, and the fender is bullet-proof. When I break a string, I put a new one on - takes about a minute and a half.
Members brotherbass
I never did, but during one gig my main bass broke a solder joint and I had no back up. Now I bring a basic 4 banger Ibby that is tuned and ready. Not the best tone/feel but at least it's something.

Members g.ghost
I had the input jack go open during a rehearsal once and since then, I always take a backup to a gig. I've never needed one at a gig (Murphy's law) but at least I know I have one if something should die. It's also fun to change basses between sets. Members RSBro
3rd option. I play my NS2 in E, Eb, drop D and C#. My Charvel is setup strictly for C, but I could tune it up and it would still play fine.

Members bassplayer7770
Now that I have two basses again, yes, I do take both basses to gigs, but I also play them both. It's fun to switch things up a bit.

Members MTMTEX
Yep, without fail. Both of my sixers are active and any number of bad things could happen. It still blows my guitard away if I pull my backup out for a change of pace, and its a Modulus Q6.
Members Ender_rpm
rehearsal- no Church gigs- almost ever, depends on how far from home it is. Cover gigs- always, usually have either my SB2 or Jazz as my main, then the other or a Yamaha fretless as a back up/second bass. Last gig I used my fretless for most fo the 2nd half, and I think I'm hooked

Members ModmanQ6
I played a gig last year and there was a band that went on before us. The bass player brought 7 basses and an upright. He played 2 during their set, but all were on display. Crazy...
