I LOVE the look of the bass, but I'm realizing I prefer the sound of a Jazz bass. Because it has no pickguard and is routed for a precision pickup, I can't just swap the thing out without rerouting it. Is there such a thing as a precision pickup that sounds like a jazz pickup? That would effectively turn it into a single coil and get closer to the sound of a Jazz pickup. I don't think you'll get much closer than that. Members sunburstbasser Posted September 20, 2012 Members Share Posted September 20, 2012 It would sound something like a Jazz bass if you had both pickups on, right next to each other, and only doing two strings each. I've found the bridge pickup to have a lot more to do with gaining a classic J sound than the neck pickup, no matter what style the neck pickup is. I love the classic Dimarzio with the hex adjustable poles. That's just me though. I've had the hots for an Aerodyne for a while. The stock pictures at the online stores don't do them justice.
