Members autorepairguy
Are there strings specifically for an acoustic/electric guitar? I have some Elixer coated strings on my acoustic 6 string, really nice, would like something similar for the 4 string.
Members WRGKMC
Elixir makes them. http://www.juststrings.com/elx-14502.html So does D'Addario http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/daddario-exppbb170-coated-phosphor-bronze-acoustic-bass-strings?cntry=us&source=3WWRWXGP&gclid=CITiiP6irtACFQQyaQod5P8OuA&kwid=productads-adid^156403583515-device^c-plaid^135210133242-sku^100965000000000@ADL4MF-adType^PLA You could always try tape wound too. Not sure how good they'd sound on an acoustic bass though. Bronze Normally sounds best on an acoustic because its a soft flexible metal. Steel is essential on an electric because of the pickups. Bronze isn't magnetic so magnetic pickups don't sound right with acoustic Strings. You can use either on an acoustic bass because they use a piezo vibration pickup. I've tried electric guitar strings on acoustics and they sound awful to me. same for bass so you'll probably want to stick with Bronze or Bronze coated acoustic bass strings. Members DeepEnd
Typically "acoustic/electric" strings are made with magnetic alloys so that pickups can respond to the strings. If you don't have a magnetic pickup in your acoustic bass you don't need to worry. Most companies that make strings make sets for acoustic bass: d'Addario, DR, Elixir, Ernie Ball, Fender, Rotosound, etc. (http://www.juststrings.com/acousticbassguitar.html). Members RebeccaUTB
I recently re-acquired an acoustic bass and have just fitted it with La Bella white nylons to see what the fuss was about. Previously I had used black nylons for their general 'double-bass-esque thuddiness' but these whites, whilst still doing this, also retain a brightness that the black ones seem to lack. I am converted!
