Re: Phil O'Keefe's NAMM Show Photo Diary and Blog...

This was on the main show floor - not upstairs where Fender has their main "booth" - it was the Fender strings / accessories booth - it looks like Fender has a new budget line - probably not the reissue "Starcaster" some of you were hoping for: Nearby was this KILLER looking Gretsch kit - The Renown 57:

Some pics of the new BLUE microphones: The pattern selector is actually a dial on the side - I believe it is backlit when plugged into phantom power: The BLUE Spark is now shipping - I'll be doing a review of it soon: It comes with all the goodies... the shock mount, pop filter and wood case are all included for $199:

I was given a full tour of the SM Pro Audio booth, and was really impressed with some of their products - they really have some cool problem solvers:

They had some really cool "dual pedals" (two types of pedals in a single case) on display - the vibe / fuzz was particularly fun:

Clever panel mount mic jacks...

...that connect with computer networking cable - phantom power is carried too.

The VMachines unit allows you to take VST plugins and virtual instruments and use them sans computer:

Re: Phil O'Keefe's NAMM Show Photo Diary and Blog...

Way back in the mid to late 1970's, Aphex created the very first Aural Exciter. There were only five of them made, and they were not sold - you had to rent the use of them by the minute. Apparently, only two of them still survive, and Waves tracked them down and modeled them - so now, for the first time, the original Aphex Aural Exciter is available to everyone without having to rent it by the minute.

Re: Phil O'Keefe's NAMM Show Photo Diary and Blog...

As I've come to expect, ZVex had a staggering array of artfully hand painted pedals on display: If you look closely on the left side of this picture, you may spot a new ZVex pedal / model: Zack wasn't at the booth, but I hope to talk to him about that tomorrow... actually, due to the slow speed of the Internet connection here, I guess that would be in a few hours - IOW, a little later today.

My daughter asked me to get pics at the Coffin Case booth - I did, but I didn't have time to stop in and say hi to her two friends that were supposedly working there... maybe tomorrow...

Re: Phil O'Keefe's NAMM Show Photo Diary and Blog...

Avid's new Venom virtual analog synth ($599 MSRP / $499 "street") features 3 oscillators per each of its 12 voices, a large wavetable (including drum sounds), 49 full sized keys, and a edgy, aggressive and very attractive sound. I was able to play with one for a while, and really liked it a lot. Expect a Pro Review with Craig Anderton soon. And yes, you can use it as an audio interface AND also run external audio through the synth for processing too! And I think that's it for now, so until tomorrow (later today... )...

Hey Phil, is anyone coming out with a guitar-to-MIDI interface like the Axon products? I'm really looking for a good alternative to a Axon Ax-100. Maybe GraphTec has something up their sleeve.

Re: Phil O'Keefe's NAMM Show Photo Diary and Blog...

I had the opportunity to meet and chat with Jack Deville for a bit - he's a really nice guy, and makes some great pedals. His silent true bypass switching is SUCH a great idea, and works exactly as advertised - great stuff! :smileytongue:hil:

is the switch like on the pitchblack? what you mean by silent tbp switch?

1. Yes. 2. Yes. 3. Have you stopped beating your wife - yes or no? :smileywink: (I wouldn't dream of stealing any of Zack's pedals, and whoever it was that did so, I hope they catch them and string them up by the toes... :cop: )
