Re: New BOSS Pedals

So, you played it through headphones -- was it going through some kind of practice amp, or just straight to headphones? I was wondering if they work for direct recording as well as through an amp.

I think it was just a regular headphone amp, so I think the pedals will work fine for direct recording.

The Roland JC-120 is really a clean (too clean IMHO) amp, which is why I think they used it for the main demos - so the listener could hear the pedals without coloration from an amp.

Re: New BOSS Pedals

I really want to play thru one myself and see if I like it. I am not opposed to modeling and the web demo was really impressive.

I think the demos were decent. I'd certainly be willing to test drive it

Re: New BOSS Pedals

I guess the question is, are the two new Boss Fender Deluxe Reverb / Bassman pedals are any better than the latest modelers such as the DigiTech GSP1101 or the Boss GT8.

For all we know, the two new Boss pedal's modeling algorithms are not much different than the existing modeling algorithms as found in the Boss GT8. Or maybe the new DigiTech GSP1101 can do as well or better with those Fender sounds.

That would make the two new Boss-Fender pedals not very impressive or cost effective as compared to the versatility of the latest modelers because the two of them will cost you $338.00 including two Boss PSA120’s.

Practice on the amp you have while you save your money to buy a real Fender amp...... I'm glad I did. :thu:

Re: New BOSS Pedals

I bought the FDR-1 on Thursday and I'm absolutely thrilled. With the gain rolled off, I'm getting some of my best clean tones ever.

Re: New BOSS Pedals

good point, it's a big job to make those amps sound good with any kind of distortion.

Wh...wh...wh..WHAT???

OK, I'm new here so I don't want to instantly get labeled as a dick or anything, but what are you smoking?

Just because the JC-120 has a great clean sound doesn't mean you can't make it sound good with "any kind of distortion"

You may not personally like it's sound, but go back and listen to:

The Cult

Love and Rockets

A Flock of Seagulls

The Psychedelic Furs

Sisters of Mercy

The Mission U.K.

...And a whole ton of others and I think you may retract that statement.

The JC-120 can sound EVIL when properly motivated.

Back on topic though... That Bassman pedal sounded very expressive.

Pedals

I just heard both pedals through a VOX AC15 running clean.

I would have to say each pedal acted like a noise gate and compressed the sound some.

The AC15 sure sounded better without the pedals.

Re: New BOSS Pedals

Bomp for Dragonsoni's mention of the Vox AC15 (of course I'm referring to the British made TBX model) :thu:

The way I see it, why pay for hardware when you can use software like Guitar Rig or Amplitube. As a keyboard player I bring my MacBook Pro with me to gig for the keyboard sounds. It's much cheaper than buying a Nord Electro.

Re: New BOSS Pedals

I like the sound of the FBM on those demos - assuming that it sonuds as close as that "live", I'd be happy to use one. That said, though, a lot would come down to the price. While it seems to nail the Bassman sound, if I found another pedal that was as responsive and sounded as good for much less, I wouldn't feel the need to spend the extra on the Boss. I'd like to A/B one of those with a Bad monkey out of curiosity. Somethingl ike that in front of a nice tranny amp with a good clean tone would be good..... I wish Fender would reissue the 90s Bronco Tweed Amp, maybe in a larger 30w format. Something like that with a pedal or two of this quality would be great - I'd much rather that than tubes, personally. YMMV, of course.

I do wonder how many people will (as some have above) dismiss these pedals out of hand as "not the real thing" without even considering them.
