The stranded Carnival cruise ship.

If you've been paying attention to the news of the stranded Carnival cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico, then you know how horrible conditions have become. No power, no restroom facilities, and people fighting over dwindling food and water supplies.

What's happening onboard this ship is a microcosm of what would happen in our "civilized" society should we lose power for an extended period of time. No electricity, food, water, gasoline, or anything else that we take for granted on a daily basis would be available from the usual sources.  Whatever you have at the moment the grid goes down is all you will have for a very long time.

Now add roving bands of thugs who will come, looking to take by force anything they may need, and you have a situation that none of us would want to be in, but is something for which we'd all better be prepared.

Re: The stranded Carnival cruise ship.

I haven't been following the story.

Why exactly can't they send boats and or helicopters out to remove the passengers?

I'll be surprised if anyone is still alive by the time the ship reaches dry land today.

Doesn't this cruise liner have more then one boat? I would think they should work together with the coast guard to help these people. Since it seems they're not going to do that... I think it's highly appropriate that karma will be there for them when they have to go clean the ship.

Re: The stranded Carnival cruise ship.

They have more boats, but using one of them for rescue operations would cut into their profits.

It's interesting to guess who would be the first pieces of scum that would turn on their fellow humans in times of a crisis.

With some people, it's not a guess at all.
