I'm not sure thay you are right about point 2.

If you say something that isn't the truth  and you know it is not the truth or you say something with the deliberate aim of mis-leading someone when you say it then you are lying.  Now it might not be a bad lie, it might not even be a harmful lie,  but it is a lie.  So Stomp are you saying there exists a category between telling the truth and telling a lie?  If this category exists - is it a sin or not?   

Now I understand that you might exagerate for effect (like a comedian) but that would assume that both you and your interlocutor both understood that what you said was meant to be funny rather than meant as a statement of fact.  Now making that clear over the interweb has its problems so mistakes might occur.  Are you saying that is what happened. The christian - believes in both the idea of sin and idea of original sin.  To do that they must also believe that the christian god exists and in the doctrine that goes with it.  Obviously the athiest in having no belief in a diety or an attached theology is hardly going use a concept of sin as a measuring stick.  On the other hand I am sure that they also  have a well developed sense of morallity that is for the most part indistinguishable from the thiests except for the fact that they follow it without either the fear of damnation or the hope of salvation as motivation or seek justification for it through reference to a deity, for good or ill.

Sin is an observable aspect of humanity. Anybody who denies it is selling something.

I didn't write 1 John 2:22. 1 John 2:22 discribes a person who does not believe Jesus is the Christ. 1 John 2:22 says people who don't believe Jesus is the Christ are liers.
