Yeah, I just realized that the only "jazz" that I listen to and enjoy is Jeff Beck, Return to Forever, and Wes Montgomery.
Turns out I like jazz as much as like metal: I enjoy listening to some songs of a couple of artists.
Therefore, let us all stop pretend we actually listen to this stuff.

The truth is that I would much more prefer to listen to Lily Allen than Charlie Parker (-.-)

Amen to that, daddy-o. The high-water mark was Mingus' 'Ah Um', IMO

Yeah. Most of those classic jazz albums, of all the top jazz artists, were recorded by producer and recording engineer, Rudy Van Gelder, in his living room, in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, back in the 1950's and '60's. They are strictly top-shelf. Thumbs up!
I believe they're released under the OJC(Original Jazz Classics) label these days. I have an extensive collection of RVG CD's released on that label. Not to mention some of the original vinyl LP's.

And I would have to pretend.

I like pretty much all forms of music except for rap and hip-hop. There is a lot of jazz I like but even more that I don't like. Return to Forever is a favorite of mine. I have some Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck that I like. Heck, I like classical, country, hillbilly, various forms of rock and pop, modern Christian worship music, you name it. I even like some music featuring a sitar.
I can only assume that most of the people here like some aspects of most genres, being musicians and all. We "hear" more of the nuanced stuff going on. In fact, I listened to "Single Lady" without watching the video and that song seems to be a genre unto itself and I love it, though I am otherwise not a fan of her music.

I enjoy listening to jazz. It is pop music which I just cannot abide these days.
I don't care if I never hear another 18-24 year old female vocalist. I hate that shit.
But then... I am old.

Shit thread
Some jazz can be pretty inaccessible. Interesting only from a music as math/sport point of view - so don't listen to it!
Most of the 50's big band stuff pisses all over what FM radio puts out on their daily loop these days. I'll take Stan Getz blowing on top of a bossa nova over any of that autotuned shit for all eternity.

I like most Jazz going back as far the early 1900's. I regret there are no recordings of Buddy Bolden, but there are of Bix/Jelly etc.

I like jazz. I think it works out best live though. Yeah, there are some great recordings, but I think it's wayy wayy better in a live format. I mean even more than other types of music. I think just doing jazz from records can kind opf narrow things. I've had friends that didn't think they liked azz til they went to see some live stuff
