NRA lied: No armed guards at Obama girls’ school

I know...you're shocked.

--

There’s a reason they’re call gun “NUTS.”  The NRA just lies.  These guys should consider teaming up with the religious right, considering the audacity of lies they tell.

You might recall that we reported earlier this week that the NRA had launched an ad/Web site targeting President Obama’s children.  The ad claimed – falsely, we now know – that the school the Obama girls attend, Sidwell friends, has “11 armed guards.”

No they didn't lie. I may look it up later when I get to a computer. It was easy to find their jobs posted website, (Sidwells), where they were hiring armed guards.

I looked at your link, I will have to find their wanted ads. While they claim they don't carry, it was required in their wanted ads that the applicants be licensed to carry. I wonder why they would require that?

I doubt they go anywhere without Secret Service (undertandable) whether their school employs guards or not.

A slashing attack like this has an especially high threshold to get its facts straight. The ad gives the impression that a phalanx of armed police are guarding students, such as the Obama and Gregory children, at Sidwell Friends.

But that is completely false. Far from being elitist, the relatively small force of unarmed security guards at Sidwell is not unusual for a school of its size.

Moreover, the ad also suggests that Obama rejects out of hand boosting security at schools, when in fact his proposals include provisions that would provide funding for more school security.

If the NRA is also trying to count Secret Service protection for Obama’s children as part of that force of armed guards, that’s even more ridiculous. As we noted, such protection is mandated under federal law — and only exists for the president’s children.

Clark Arnold, a 32-year-veteran of the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office, reportedly left a gun unattended in a bathroom at The Chatfield School for "a few moments."

An armed school security officer hired in response to the Newtown shootings forgot to take his gun with him when he left the bathroom.

The unloaded handgun was unattended in the restroom “for a few moments,” Matt Young, director of The Chatfield School in Lapeer, Mich., told Michigan Live in a statement.

Chatfield students never saw or came in contact with the gun. None of the 500 children who attend the K-8 charter school were put in danger during what Young called a “breach in security protocol.”

"The school has put additional security procedures in place that follow local law enforcement practices and guidelines,” Young said. “We will continue to work on improving school security."

The school has been in touch with local authorities about the incident, but wouldn’t discuss the case further.

WNEM has identified the officer as Clark Arnold, a 32-year-veteran of the Lapeer County Sheriff’s office. He was given the responsibility of patrolling the school’s front entrance, which are the only doors opened during school hours.

"It's probably slim-to-next-to-none that someone's going to be needed in the school, but it's that slim you have to worry about," Arnold told WNEM.

Arnold was hired as part of Chatfield’s efforts to reinforce security after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, which claimed the lives of 20 children and 6 adults.

Young called Arnold a “tremendous asset to the safety of the students.”

In addition to hiring an armed security guard, The Chatfield School installed new cameras on the campus and gave its teachers additional lockdown training, according to WNEM.

But I think that fear must be nothing compared to the fear the first graders in Sandy Hook Elementary School felt as their lives ended in a hail of bullets. The fear that those children who survived the massacre must feel every time they remember their teachers stacking them into closets and bathrooms, whispering that they loved them, so that love would be the last thing the students heard if the gunman found them."- Gabrielle Giffords

His kid's protection is mandated by law and it has been that way for past President's also. Our families are not recieving death threats on a daily basis.

Re: NRA lied: No armed guards at Obama girls’ school

Our protection is mandated by the second amendment.    Obama seems to think he can limit our ability to self protection.    Do you think the agents that protect his family are going to end up with 10 rounds of ammo in their weapons>?    Why does he feel his family has more right to protection than mine?

1)  Obama is not limiting your ability to protect yourself.  How many rounds do you need to protect yourself with anyway?  Can you show me any examples of people who would not have been able to protect themselves except for the fact that they had a 30-round clip in their gun?

2) His family has no more 'right' to protection than yours or mine.  What they DO have, however, is a greater risk of danger.

3) "protection" is not mandated by the 2nd amendment.

Background checks are fine.

It is interesting that Biden has no interest in prosecuting anyone that lies on their 4473 though.

Re: NRA lied: No armed guards at Obama girls’ school

How many rounds do I need,,  as many  as I think I need.   My pistol has a stock from the factory 15 round mag.  So < i think I need 15 rounds because that is what the gun was shipped from the factory with.   If i lived out on a ranch or farm that is  on the border which many are ,, I few 30 round mags and a AR is what most people have.   The rio grande valley is a wonderful place to live , but it does have its risks and you just prepare for them.   We have a lot of cartel activity involveing smuggleing of drugs and humans, here and those guys are armed and dangrous.  The second amendment is my right to personal protection measures that I feel are prudent.  For the most part if you keep your face clean you wont have problems , but you can end up at the wrong place at the right time and need to protect yourself.   Millions of dollars of drugs get smuggled across the border every day in our area.   The risks are real.

It must suck to be so afraid of life. The 2nd amendment is not about self protection.

I thought that you lived on South Padre Island or is that just another lie?

I live on the mainland a half mile from the bridge to the island.   I have a house on the water.    Its not a matter of being scared ,, its a matter of being able to protect youself.   When you live where i do ,, you go to brownsville, weslico, pharr, donna, ets up the rio grande valley.   if you have ever seen the show border wars on the history channel ,, much of that is shot in the area where I live and shop etc.

In your case it must suck to have to live life being stupid and ignorant and dependant.   your life must be a trainswreck.

Did you ever consider that the problem will not be solved with guns, but by addressing the failed drug war? How many more guns do you need to feel safe from the bogeyman?  Did you ever think of moving if you feel that your life is in imminent danger?

My life is just fine w/o a gun.

What is a trainswreck Rhat?

When do you plan to lean how to use the quotes and the English language on a 6th grade level? You can graduate to the use of a spellcheck at a later date.
