Simon & Garfunkel--third rate Woody Guthrie and his non-writing girlee-sounding friend.
Otis Redding--2nd rate Sam Cooke. wouldn't even be nominated if he didn't die.
Johnny Cash--can't play, can't sing, all image.
Aretha Franklin---screamer--how can you even call that "singing"-- who can't write or play.
Temptations ---boy band who can't write or play.
It's all relative. "My ERA was the best; the new shit stinks." Same ol' same ol'. Boring.
You should get back to your new Beyonce cd. ![]()

2013
Record of the Year
» The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy" ----- Third rate ZZ Top
» Kelly Clarkson - "Stronger" ---- Can sing, but sings shit
» Fun. feat. Janelle Monae - "We Are Young" ---- shit
» Gotye feat. Kimbra - "Somebody That I Used to Know" ---- shit
» Frank Ocean - "Thinkin Bout You" --- shit
» Taylor Swift - "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" ---- cute as hell, I mean really cute, but zzzzzz
1969Simon & Garfunkel, Otis Redding, Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin, Temptations
As hard as the Grammys try, they couldn't even be shitty back then.
As I've gotten older, I've gotten more of an appreciation for music. I'm pretty sure that's because of some of the musicians here... and aging.
I like some of the singers from the 60's and their contributions. I also like gotye.
Don't like Taylor Swift. And I'm pretty sure you do because of how she looks.
Why would you think that? ![]()

I am not crazy about Taylor Swift's music but she does a lot for the community around here.

"Redefining" country music by making it sound like 20+ year old rock?
A) Boring.
B) It was boring when country music started sounding like 50s rock in the 1970's.
When there's something actually "new" happening in country music, maybe I'll start listening to it again.

Probably.
But at least new pop music sounds new. Most is no more relevant to me than stuff 40 years ago was to my dad, but at least both era's music was new, which is why the old folks never "get" it. Which is kind of how it's supposed to be.
But to the degree "new" music is just warmed-over old stuff? What's the point of that? Except to sell records to old farts who never outgrew what they liked when they wre 12.
The biggest problem the Grammy's have ALWAYS had is that they favor what is most popular over what might be most artistic, which makes it a fun show to watch on TV but doesn't really say much about the art of music.
But hey...I'm sure they'll drag out a couple of dinosaurs to keep the dad's happy. Aren't they doing a tribute to Springsteen or something like that tonight?

Actually, my dad doesn't like country.
I get what you're saying, but it seems some people will try and like crap just because it's new, so they can feel "with it".
That's pathetic to me. Music is either good or it isn't. And it was better in the 20th century.
Not including hip hop, which has always sucked, at least in my opinion.
There is good music out there now, but it's not popular.

We all like what we like. Most of which was a taste developed in our youth. People like what was popular (or sounds like what was popular) when they were a kid and hate the new stuff. I imagine Mozart's dad hated the stuff he wrote.

yeah, all that new country/rock is played well, recorded and produced well - it's just boring as fuck.
Bands have been playing those same progressions and sound for 40 years now, and most of it was done better than this.
