Except when I actually met people here that grew up under communism and asked them how it actually was growing up in such a terrible society, whether they're from Armenia or Bulgaria, they all told me the same thing: it was nice.
My best friend's father said that everyone lived virtually free from abundance, while another person told me that they had a great childhood with virtually no social isolation. Then when that collapsed, everything went to the shit.
My point is that we don't really know how it is until we actually grow up there, anywhere.

You know what gays have to endure in America? Not being able to marry.
You know what they have to endure in Iran? Death.
Some of live in the present day. Take your history lesson and shove it up your ass, you long-winded pseudo-intellectual cumstain.
Legitimate criticisms of Iran's government notwithstanding, I think it's interesting that people such as yourself never criticize the equally repressive Islamist governments of US-allied countries such as Saudi Arabia. Is that because they get a free pass from our leaders and in the media? And that your opinions are entirely dictated to you by those two groups?
(Don't worry - those were rhetorical questions. Don't strain yourself in answering them.)
I was not discounting Saudi Arabia. Would not want to live there either.
But the point is that we might just as easily be leveling sanctions against Saudi Arabia, except they're our pals. I'd love to see a day when one of our leaders comes out and admits to this hypocrisy. (I mean more than just the standard "yes, but he's OUR son-of-a-bitch" comment.) Iran's real crime is that she doesn't go along with the US's program. It's really that simple.

As an openly gay man in our blessed United States, I can only complain about not being able to get married. In a Muslim state I would have to hide, or be killed. I'm lucky.
Plus, due to all the sexual repression, many Islamic fundamentalist men like to molest little boys. They're far worse than Catholic Priests. Poor kids.
The only thing that would be worse than living in an Islamic fundamentalist theocracy is the thought of living in a CHRISTIAN fundamentalist theocracy. Most of the mysogyny, plus burnings of "heretics," "blasphemers," "unbelievers," scientists and anyone else who ran afoul of The Church. Oh, and let's not forget the witch trials, the "conquest of the Americas," which was largely aided and abetted by The Church, who demanded that everyone must convert to Christianity or be killed. Then there were the abuses of the wars of the Reformation and the Christian Fundamentalist movement, which is still fighting those wars, even today.
Oh yeah, because all that still happens now. DUMBASS.
it does in Countries like Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, the more Christian countries in the world

I never said you did. Reading comprehension fail.
You sure do lie a lot about knowing people everywhere who've done everything or anything.

If you'd get out of your house more often and stop nailing your parents, then you'll experience many things and meet all kinds of people. Try not being yourself from time to time. You might like it.

How dare you disaparage former president Bush's kissing cousins that way! Everyone knows that the Saudis are the smoochiest of Middle Easterners. They just teach tough. ![]()

I would never want to come between Dubya and any of his prom dates.
Not to mention the fact that it was deeply heartwarming to hear Laura Bush advocating for the betterment of the situation of Afghan women while her husband was playing tongue-hockey with the leader of a country where women have virtually no rights. Glad our astute media jumped on that one!
