He stood his ground...

...against inferior GPS systems.

Rodrigo Diaz, 22, was driving around with his girlfriend and two friends when he pulled into a driveway, thinking they had arrived at another friend’s house, his brother says. But instead he pulled into the driveway of Phillip Sailors, 69, who thought his home was being robbed, his lawyer says. Sailors then shot Diaz, according to the police report, citing what Sailors told officers at the scene. Diaz later died after surgery.

“Basically, what happened is they were looking for one of my brother’s girlfriend’s friends,” says his brother David E. Diaz-Valencia, 23. “The guy came outside and my brother’s girlfriend said he was screaming, ‘Get off my property!’ and he shot into the air. My brother was backing out fast because he was scared and he rolled down the window to say he was sorry and he was not doing anything wrong. Then the guy shot him in his head.”

The car’s GPS apparently led Diaz and his friends to the wrong home. Sailors’ lawyer says Sailors feared he and his wife were about to be the victim of a home invasion. He’s now in the county jail charged with murder.

Good! Dumbass! Here's to hoping more of those gun toting idiots end up in jail too.

This guy was obviously a fuckwit.  Should spend the rest of his life in jail.

There are lots of studies out there that point to legit firearms use to deter or stop crime in tens or even hundreds of thousands of cases per year.  The problem is it's a highly loaded subject and there's no reliable sampling system because often times it all goes unreported or underreported because "Nothing" happens.

My issue with the whole debate, and I've tried to maintain my equinimity, is the complete idiocy and emotionalism shown by some.  I'm sorry.  If you want to talk gun control lets talk gun control.  We absolutely need to do something about the assholes running around the inner city shooting each other over drug related subject matter with cheap shitty handguns.

Everyone trying to make it about high capacity mags and AR-15's, neither of which are statistically significant, simply because they're scary looking is utterly idiotic.

I want to see some common sense gun control measures that can actually help the situation in this country.  Instead we've got people on one side wetting their pants because of a class of firearm which were responsible for less than 500 deaths nationwide in 2011, and on the other side we've got people who's entire idea of how to fix the "Problem" is to arm teachers.

Both sides are completely insane.

Re: He stood his ground...

this is the kind of stupidity you get when the idiots on both sides of the argument give the typical knee jerk reaction...   all of you are fucking assholes with the exception of someone that pointed out the "untrained paranoid" aspect of the situation...   the old man didnt "stand his ground",  that was simply a phrase used to incite the reader...  the man was oblivious to current law... you may only use deadly force when your life is being threatened and someone driving away is not a threat... of course you wouldnt get the substandard pathetic threads that proliferate here in the poop forum without some moron making idiotic and uninformed statements...  carry on, morons...  :smileyhappy:

It depends upon where you live, but your life being threatened isn't the only time when deadly force can be used.

Those would be pretty useless statistics.  What % of our nukes has America used since WW II?  But only a fool would think they have no effect.

Do you have data that shows all gun owners are like this? Has there been a string of home invasions in this neighborhood? Has the perp been threatened recently? Too many questions and no answeres. Yes this guy was off his cookies. But why?
