I think we can all agree that this would be a change in the right direction,Hemp can be used for many purpose.
Polis’ measure would regulate marijuana the way the federal government handles alcohol: In states that legalize pot, growers would have to obtain a federal permit. Oversight of marijuana would be removed from the Drug Enforcement Administration and given to the newly renamed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana and Firearms, and it would remain illegal to bring marijuana from a state where it’s legal to one where it isn’t.
The bill is based on a legalization measure previously pushed by former Reps. Barney Frank of Massachusetts and Ron Paul of Texas.
Blumenauer’s bill would create a federal marijuana excise tax of 50 percent on the “first sale” of marijuana — typically, from a grower to a processor or retailer. It also would tax pot producers or importers $1,000 annually and other marijuana businesses $500.

actually -- it is. they are the same species plant. hemp simply lacks sufficient TCH to get you high, but it does contin THC. some strains are bread to have low THC.

Obviously, hemp would not be taxed at 50%--it wouldn't make sense.

I know that but the same laws are enforced if you are caught with any.

It's a step in the right direction for sure but IMO the Feds should fuck off entirely and let people exercise their right to get high or not.
I agree 100%,And Hemp should be legal to grow for farmers since it has many uses,A great alternative crop. The taxing part of it makes alot of sense on the revenue side.
But Reefer madness is alive and well.

It kinda goes back to my attitude with regards to gun control or any other sort of sweeping Federal measure. I don't like the Federal government passing big, sweeping restrictions from DC that affect us all.
I really dig the idea of "dry" counties. We have one that I know of here in OR but there are lots of them in the bible belt. If your local populace doesn't want something they can vote on it. If your state wants draconian gun or drug control measures great. Vote on it.
I'm absolutely opposed to Federal measures becaues it gives the feds the ability to come in and subordinate local Law Enforcement.

We can't afford not to change the marijuana laws this year because the current situation is an expensive failure.

2 issues here,The New Pot laws some States have put into effect and the plant Hemp which is Illegal to grow in most states,With Hemp even the GOP Senate Minority leader has stated he would like to see farmers be able to grow it as a cash crop,Of course as you know it can be used for multiple things and as a fuel.
So yup failure on 2 counts, prisons are full of non violent people which pot charges..
Really a no brainer I hope this catches fire, pardon the pun.

It's exactly the same. It's some jackass with a lobbyist wrapped around his crank at the Federal level passing laws which bind everyone in the US. Doesn't really matter what the issue is. If it's not a civil rights violation, the people at the local level should be free to choose what they want to grow/smoke/shoot/etc.

Most 'experts' think that the Federal prohibition against MJ will be gone in 20 years, and possibly little more than 10.
Definately will happen in less than 100 years.
