I own a 410 pump shotgun dove rifle with 4 shells for home defense. A double barrel 12 gauge is a littel OTT IMO, but hey, better than an AR15.
Really? Wow, I am sure you have several recent examples you can link to where a competetive shooter that has owned his guns for years has snapped and went on a spree. Why don't you link to a few of them.

you're obviously a highly trained killer to own such a weapon. luckily there are citizens like you out there to stand up for other experts, like Joe Biden

Because this VP doesn't know squat about firearms or their safe use, either.
And you have no idea what you are talking about. When was the last time you killed someone with a firearm? I know exactly what I'm talking about.
In the case of Cheney out bird hunting with his friends I know exactly what happened and the dipshit friend of Cheney's is lucky he didn't get it worse. He was too far forward in the line across. Bird hunting is fast and all of the shooters focus is on staying on target. If a bird comes across in front of the line the shooter will follow it all the while knowing where everybody should be. This yo yo was not paying attention and was not where he should have been. Cheney did nothing wrong. These accidents happen every year by hunters not practicing safe hunting habits.
So now, tell me exactly what you know about this.
Fire discipline didn't happen here, and there was a lack of awareness on part of the shooter. I was trained that everytime you take a shot, you watch for blues. Maybe the other guy was out of position. If one of my squadmates were out of position, and I friendly-fucked him, it's still my ass.
Yeah, but everybody knows that in the presence of a scary, bloodbath creating weapon of mass destruction you're incapable of things like fire discipline and all that. Obviously the weapon of mass killing in your hands would overwealm your higher brain functions and cause you to shoot your squadmate out of sheer bloodlust.
Oh and... I love this picture because I've got a shotty for any occasion... The Benelli for a classy night out on the town or the 870 for a trip to the seedier side...
Shotguns are the best home defense. It is sad some denigrate the messenger for not being more articulate. LaPierre is an idiot.

They're not the best for everyone or everything though.
My 60 year old mother who's 5'5" and about 125lbs. has no business shooting a 12ga with defensive loads. She shoots my Glock quite well though.

20ga.
I've thought about that. I've never actually shot a 20ga so I don't even know if they're noticeably better.
