Ned sure loves his straw menYou sure do like to misuse the term "straw men". But you're not alone, most lefties here over-use that term when they're cornered with facts they don't like.
Facts like Obama avoided military service and is dropping bombs in other countries without UN approval or a declaration of war.
Facts suck huh?

So you think a President cannot commit troops if he didn't volunteer for the military? Is that your logic train?
No actually. So do you think just because someone didn't serve, that they can't levy criticism against someone that did?
It's a big stretch to call Cruz a "Chickenhawk", when our very own president is lobbing missiles and has criticized republican veterans...and has never served himself.
fuk dude, they are hopeless.

I give you Saxby Chambliss and the 2004 Swiftboat campaign. Both consisted of VICIOUS attacks by non-veterans on real vets, one of whom lost 3 limbs and the other of whom had 3 Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.
Not that many Republican Senators or Congressman are vets. I suspect more Dems are.

Carter was a nuclear-trained Naval officer, and a submariner.
Not sure what you did at BYU.....but I think he's got you beat.

Right.
It's just the democrat veterans whine a lot more.

BTW, the whole notion of the "chickenhawk" thing is stupid to begin with.
1. The whole point of elected civilian leadership is to NOT have the military running things.
2. Draft dodgers etc. are in an age group where their judgment and values still haven't matured. Anyone in their mid '40s who's values, principles, beliefs, etc hasn't changed since they were a teenage is a liar.
3. The real hypocrites are the ones like Cindy Sheehan who conveniently forget their outrage when the president changes, yet almost as many US service members have died under Obama as Bush.
Under former President George W. Bush, 575 American soldiers died and fewer than 3,000 were wounded in Afghanistan. This means under Obama, at least 1,405 soldiers have died and nearly 15,000 additional soldiers have been wounded, which means 70% of the deaths and nearly 80% of the injuries in Afghanistan have occurred under Obama’s watch.
Shit my own views on things like gays in the military have changed since my 20s, so anyone who holds a politician accountable for their behavior as a teen or early 20 year old better look in the mirror first.

He also had planned to make the Navy his life career, as do many Annapolis grads. But his father died and that left him the most capable family member to manage the family farm. I guess he thought he was more capable than Billy.

I don't think Republicans disrespect veterans in general. Just the ones who've gone over to the dark side.
Look at how Dims treat conservative blacks.
Not going to comment on the "chickenhawk" label. If only combat veterans were allowed to speak about war and defense matters, that would eliminate about 95% of us from the conversation. Hmm, maybe not a bad idea.
But most combat vets I've known, from WW2 up through the current crap, have been very reticent to talk about their experiences.
