So, as some of you may recall, back in May, LCK and I were collaborating on a song called "Swami's Got the Blues." I bought a copy of Addictive Drums and worked a bit on a drum track, but I got tied up with other things and never ended up getting back to work on it.
I've been meaning for a while to post this version to let everyone know where this stands, but I didn't think it was enough of a work in progress from the compositional standpoint to warrant a new thread. It's not really a "finished work," either, as I still want to have a drummer friend do a live drum track and have bee3 re-do the electric piano part, but this seemed like as good a place as any to post it.

Yeah, that's a good one. Vocals sound a lot better than I remember them. Still a few spots in the vocals that could use some spit and polish, and the keys could fit the groove a little better.
I've got the project with this provisional drum track lying around somewhere:

There is a whole sample/mashup/remix still to be done around it, but:

I agree with you about the vocals, and in fairness to bee3, the keyboard part was just a scratch track he did quickly at the end of the night after we tracked vocals. It was always our intention that the keyboard part would be re-recorded.

Not to mention... that's a hella-lotta chords to remember.

Started working up a bunch of new songs with the band, 5 of which were worked on in here.
Ya'll probably won't remember but in case you do the 5 are:
Blindsided
But For Now
Slow Moving Quilt
Haunted By the Memories
Oleander Blooms
This is my favorite part of the process. I love seeing a song I'm used to hearing one way (just me and a guitar) start taking on a whole new identity. It makes me want to write more.

Cool. When are you recording them properly?

Haven't nailed down a date yet. I've been approaced by a few folks, but haven't made any decisions yet. The stuido where I did Cheers to the Wind now has a MCI JH-428 and a two inch tape machine. I don't want to pay for 2 inch tape, but that would be pretty cool.

Just messing around with an older one...

This is fantastic.

It's great to hear this again. The instrumentation, the melody lines, the groove, are all terrific.
There a couple places where the prosody still needs a little work. I'm wondering how we can we work on that?
Oh, and just for future reference, Kelley is spelled with two e's.

This is ringing every bell in my head. The verse melody is absolutely an already well-known tune, with Kenny Rogers being the name that keeps bubbling up.

You're thinking of Bob Seger. When I initially presented this song a couple years ago... that was the consensus. Then Stickboy covered it which may make it even more familiar to you... it's ok... I'm at peace with it.
And so is this cat.

You're both right.

I do remember in the original thread you had mentioned a couple of prosody issues. I would love to hear your thoughts on what might be improved--although I don't know when I might have a chance to fix vocals since I have to do those at bee3's place, and I don't have a ton a free time these days.
Correct spelling of your name noted! I will be sure to get that right next time around.

I could try singing along into my hand-held voice recorder...
That would hopefully clear things up.

Sounds good. I will try to do a version for you without the vocal. I probably won't have a chance to get to it until the weekend, though.

Cool. In the meantime I'll practice with the current version.
