Re: importing backtrax into an ipad??

You have to get them into iTunes on your PC then use iTunes to transfer them.

Good Luck with that.

Any Apple music player/gadget will require you to go via their horrid iTunes - and that shitty little thing will put every piece of music on your computer onto the Apple gadget whether you want it to or not.

Don't let them fool you that you can cherry pick and only transfer the music you want like you can drag and drop files from PC to a non Apple gadget - iTunes will infiltrate everything and do what it bloody well wants.

I BLOODY HATE ITUNES. :catmad:

I'm not a fan of iTunes either Susie but hats a little overboard. Just create a playlist and drag just what you need in there.

I dislike being forced to use something, but have to say iTunes is pretty easy to use and not something to get het up about.

It's a nightmare!

You two must be getting paid commission by Apple to say iTunes is anything but horrid.

Re: importing backtrax into an ipad??

My sentiments lie with you, Susie...I dislike the way Apple has attempted to make the world over in its own image. I have used both Apple OS and PC platforms, and still find the 'intutive properties' of Apple's system to be a myth.  I suppose had I grown up using them, I would 'get it'...but I didn't, and I don't. I really learned to dislike Apple whe n they came out with the original iMac...a computer with no floppy or CD drive? Really? So everything I want to do that isn't already on this machine I have to download...over a phone modem? And all the existing software I have is now...unusable?

Bite me, Apple....

Hence I have resisted the iPod, iPhone and iPad....and iTunes...

The iPod, iPhone, iPad, and ITunes are as special to me know as a stove. There's no glamour- they're just devices I use everyday without thought. Good for Apple if they can do that without me even noticing.

I can't get on the "Bag on Apple" thing. Its seems a little too trendy for me. IMO they make a MUCH better computer than your standard POS PC. Unfortunately I own a PC. Given the choice at school I'll always jump on the Mac first though.

Re: importing backtrax into an ipad??

Hi all

I gotta say that so far i am TOTALLY un-impressed with my iPad...

its so restrictive,,,!  now ive just learned that i cant take in just by backtrax onto the ipad for use with songbook i have to sync the whole lot...

its so controlling.. plus mine is an iPad1 so ive no TASK MANGER!!!!  i cant zip around from app to app.

but worse, way worse than that is the inability to do anything i want to..  i may get the hang of it but first impressions feel like ive just bought myself a straight-jacket!

p.s. would it make sense to try this?  setup a separate itunes user with a different email address. upload on a pc my backtrax to itunes with that email address logged in as user.  then setup the ipad to login with just taht email address in itunes.  then it will only sync with the backtrax which are in that particular user's iTunes. make sense??

thanks d

Totaly feel your confusion, I was the same for the first few days but when I got a system going it really did just fall into place. At the same time I bought the ipad , I also got a Nexus android tablet and in so many ways that is the better tablet but I really only got the ipad to use Onsong with and for that and linking the BTs it is a piece of cake. I have never had a reason to split the tunes as you suggest but then I don't use Songbook so I don't know about that.
Stick with it, it does get much better.

I'm quite happy with my Acer A500 running songbook, but I feel your pain. I don't own an iPad, but have an iPod. My wife has an iPod also but with less memory than my iPod. Somewhere in iTunes, you can select certain playlists to sync, without having to sync the whole library. Your approach may work too, but I think you can put all the backing tracks into a playlist, and only sync that.

Sell it.

Pottsy will buy it off ya! :womanlol::womanlol:

I'm sorry, I can't help.

My only dealings with Apple were with an iPod. I got so annoyed with iTunes that I wiped the thing clean, returned it within a few days of purchase and declared it unfit for purpose. I got a full refund.

I can't be doing with things that could be SO simple but aren't.

I hope someone on here with more patience than me can help you out.

Best of luck.

Re: importing backtrax into an ipad??

How bout we get to your issue at hand. Now whats the problem again? Even before I know that I can tell you how to get rolling. Oh! I have an Ipad 1

1, On yiur PC creat a folder with all your tracks in it. It doesn't matter where this folder is as long as you don't move it.

2. Open Itunes and create playlist called backing tracks. Drag all your tracks into it from your folder.

3. Connect your Ipad. Sync the backing tracks folder with the Ipad.

DONE....

I can't help you with Onsong. I hate it. I really hate it. I use Songbook. Its not as "cute" but works well and imports easily.

You shoudnt be having ANY issues with setting this up. It should take about five minutes.

Those that say things are so difficult on the Mac should be saying that things are so difficult on the Mac because you've used a PC your entire life.

Lets be clear though again. I dont own a Mac, and I probably would have purchased an Android tablet had I been certain I could have used it for my live gigs :smileyhappy:

iTunes defaults to automatic syncing - you have to shut that off if you want any say in what gets copied to the iPad and what doesn't. iTunes makes it easy to buy songs but kinda unobvious as to how to import just the ones you want  .

I often wonder if Hell is big enough to fit all them marketing guys in it - I hope so  .

Re: importing backtrax into an ipad??

I shut off the auto synch thing when trying to transfer only the songs I wanted on the iPod, but it still transferred every single piece of music from my computer to it.

And I swear I heard it cackling with evil laughter.

I can honestly say you're the first person I know, that has made the change to Onsong or Songbook, that is gushing all over the place. Most of us can't stop talking about how awesome our giggin lives have become. Are you sure you have this "thing" dialed? (Onsong blows BTW- heheh I had to get that in there)
