Re: Restaurant Songs?

As SusieP says, you don't want to play to loud. I watch the people's heads as they are conversing. If they have to lean too close to hear each other, I'll turn it down.

Of course, as also noted, the manager knows best, even if he/she really hasn't a clue. It's OK to make suggestions and explain why, but if the manager wants opposite of what the crowd wants, that's what you should play.

I prefer owners to most managers, because they only look at one thing, how much money is going into the till. After all it is their responsibility to make payroll, pay taxes, pay the purveyors, and take home a bit for themselves. We played a weekly Sunday gig in a restaurant for a few years and when the business was good, the owner would come and stuff $20 bills in our tip jar (in addition to our regular pay). We'd also skip breaks when the room was jamming, and play late when the crowd stayed. In turn, on those slow days they sent us home early. It was a rare gig. But more often than not, when the owner is present, we are OK because we try to think and make our decisions as if we were the owners and were interested in the money being put in the till and the likelihood that they customers will return to do it again.

When you hit reply, there is a pair of blue 'buttons' on the upper right of the body, just across from the Rich text/HTML/Preview black buttons...but be careful...whatever post's reply button you hit is the one that will be quoted...but just hit the blue quote button...
