My Daughter's First Gig

[ Edited ]

This was one of the proudest moments of my life. She played to about 250 tonight and nailed it. She's been playing guitar for about 6 weeks- apparently she learned on youtube. I guess she couldn't find an instructor.  :smileywink:

Thanks Pal! I'm going to have to toss it up on youtube. I thought I could link it to facebook but it's not going to happen I guess.

Re: My Daughter's First Gig

WOW! She has no fear! Sat there, grabbed the guitar cable, plugged it in and went for it!!! Incredible!
Things to note that will make her a hit...she never took her eyes off the audience once, except on the guitar part with no singing! I mean...6 weeks into playing and she did not even look at the frets...oh...and no music stand! :smileyhappy: Awesome!
You must be one proud dad!

Wow man, she did great! I'm proud of her too! Six weeks? She's a pro, that is just flat out awesome! I think you have yourself a wonderful musician there.

That was very impressive. She is a natural entertainer. That guitar looked huge on her, but she had no trouble making it sound good. Great voice, too.

Re: My Daughter's First Gig

Thanks you guys! I knew you'd appreciate it. I'm not kidding with the amount of time on guitar either. She probably practiced about 4 hours a day. Rod I thought that was cool too with plugging in, adjusting the mic and going for it. I'd be bullshitting you guys if I told you I wasn't more than emotional watching her last night. As a matter of fact you can hear my wife sobbing a bit at the very end of the clip.

I play a few places that kids can go to and It will be great to have her sit in!

Re: My Daughter's First Gig

She's great! One of the things I noticed right up front is she didn't need the printed words in front of her. Keep that up!!

Just one piece of future advice if I may, and please I am no expert in children...
She will need a teacher, get her one if she wants, but don't try to do it yourself, nothing is less cool, or applies more pressure than trying to do what daddy tells you! :smileyhappy:

except...Daddy has great gear she can borrow, right? :smileywink:

Rod is right, Potts...if you try to 'mentor' her, it'll ruin it...don't ask how I know....let's just say none of my kids play guitar anymore...

Your daughter definitely has the makings of an entertainer...let her find her own path; if her's crosses yours, great, if not...not. My old man was a jazz/show tune pianist...our musical paths never crossed until after he couldn't play anymore due to medical issues.

This is awesome. I'm not even a parent yet, but this is the kind of thing that has me excited to become one. That's your legacy there. I can't see these parent-child things without welling up lately. Never could, but it's intensified now. This is awesome!

I couldn't agree more! We talked about finding her a great instructor. i really believe that she needs to do it the right way and learn to read and write music unlike me.

She loves the gear though!  :smileyhappy:

I'm really happy to see that you guys are as thrilled about this as I am! I'm pretty good at allowing the kids to chose their own paths with sports, music, theater or whatever but I really hope she continues this.
