Just a quick update....
I have been playing around with Reaper and n-track studio (which I had an older version of about 5 years ago).
I like the reverb on nTrack better, but the interface is not stable for me.... and that is a deal breaker.
Reaper has been rock solid, and works with very little computing resources .... and is quite fast. Nice.
The VST plug-ins I have found for reverb are .... OK. Good enough for now anyway. Anyone know of an inexpensive reverb package I could get? I sure would like to have Lexicon or Helicon's stuff .... but those are way out of my price range. I was thinking <$100.00.
I also have Cubase LE 5, but haven't installed it and tried it out yet. That is next.
So far, Reaper seems like a real winner!

A quick update ...
Reaper is great. I was quickly able to get my multi-track recordings from my R16 into a project, mix them down, add the appropriate processing, and get a pretty darned good sounding recording.
The biggest issue I had was with my MixWiz 16:2. The MixWiz3 has fixed this issue, but older versions (like mine) have the direct outs POST fader which overloaded the inputs on the Zoom R16 from time to time on channels that had the slider above unity gain. This required me getting the schematics, and doing some jumper surgery with a soldering iron to get working well.
The other issue I was having was that I couldn't find a Free VST reverb I really liked. I eventually found an impulse based reverb "SIR" and also found a bunch of very good impulse files to go with it. This is a very nice sounding verb!
I have found an adequate compressor, but will likely do a little more searching on this one.
This is one nice DAW for my purposes. I was even able to get the automation working with my Zoom R16 so that I can use the faders and mute buttons to use as a physical interface.
