Why would this be true? They're both digital number-crunchers, not like the analog vs digital thing you get with hardware compressors and plugins.
Not that I doubt you, I just don't understand why this would be the case.
Dedicated circuitry preamps and algorithm’s for the processor chips are part of it.
You do have to remember though, if your interface isnt so hot, theres can be allot
of loss getting those hardware units recorded by either using them tracking or
reamping or mixing through them.
I do wonder what the next step may be.
I thought extension boards like UAD would be the best option, and they still may be.

Maybe some day as the nects step, the recorded material will be encoded to run sound effects in the playback system?
The playback system will have great effects, reverbs, comps etc. The music will be raw multitrack music and the
playback system will auto mix and add effects. Then you'll have a button for live, studio, club, canyon etc and the
playback system will add the effects based on your preference and the track encoding. It would be Doable, but would
it be someting someone wants.
