One hit Russia, and later today an asteroid is going to fly within 1700 miles of earth.
Can a zombie apocalypse be very far away? ![]()

I once witnessed an asteroid/meteor/chunk of space debris/whatthefuckever burn up in the atmosphere; it was so close that I heard it. I've never heard anything like it; hard to describe. Kind of a descending whine/whoosh/crackling thunder. It lit up the desert pretty well. I was about halfway between Applecookie & Santa Fe, in an uninhabited desert just outside of an Indian reservation; no lights for miles in any direction.
I was hoping it would impact somewhere, but it burned up in the atmosphere.
I was going to LA at night, and heading towards the Grapevine thru the Tehatchapi Mountains, I saw
a meteor come down and explode into pieces and shower down in the distance. And once in Oregon while I was hunting deer, I was out at night from camp and saw/heard one explode way up high. That was by Mount Jefferson.

Already been done. Doods that hike around the deserts finding rocks worth the big bucks.
Not very interesting to watch, tho.....pffft

Of course thats boring...I'm thinking they should hunt down active meteorites that are about to hit the earth. Than dodge the falling molten rocks as they enter earths atmosphere!![]()

It got my boys all excited...all you need is a metal detector and magnets, and they made
good money, but they also had the experience, so they weren't just wandering around deserts
getting sunstroke, and getting lost....pfft

meteorites are plentiful above the artic circle where it's more thawed out.

or, more like...
Meteorites can be found far easier in Antarctica and in the Arctic because there are normally no rocks of terrestrial origin on the surface in either place. Same goes for a few other places on Earth, one of which is central and western parts of Kansas.

The recent fall on that frozen lake in Canada was amazing. ppl live right there, and saw and heard it.
It is the lightest (least dense) material ever found in a meteorite
