Well, it's still happening, to me, anyway. I tried going to preferences, changed my font size to 'large', didn't change anything, and there really wasn't anything else under display prefences that would seem to affect background colors. Thinking back, this started when the top banner changed from "Things may have moved..." to "NAMM coverage." In fact, when I first get to the OJ page, the NAMM banner has a white background, then a couple seconds later a black background drops in....
Happens all over the site, too. On any list of topics, every other block has a 95% black background, instead of a 10% blue background. I can read the poaster names, since they're in blue type, but everything else (in grey type) is unreadable. Lemme see if I can post this in "feedback"....
