It was missing a pre-amp tube . I put a new one in and boy does that sound good now. I had forgotten I've taken it out. It was sometime ago. I had a dissimilar experience.

I took it expensive tube out of an amplifier and replaced it with a cheap one. Then about one year later I have it repaired. When I got it back I saw that cheap tube and I thought the repairman stole my good tube . I went back to him and let them know in no uncertain terms I did not appreciate his thievery. Then, long long time later I discovered the missing expensive tube stashed in my closet. You see, I've taken it out put it there and forgotten. Can you imagine how much of an idiot I felt? I went back to him and profusely apologized. Have you ever done anything that stupid?

I have moved a lot of maps in my life and never has a pre amp tube or power amp tube just fallen out.

Fender has a springy clip thing in there power section and a springy cover thing in there pre amp section, Mesa copied this, Marshal has a 2 spring and a ring that hold power tubes in place.

I forgot what Vox does, but how they hell does a tube just fall out?

I bought some stuff off E-Bay which was not quite what I expected. I whined and sent it back and later found out that it was exactly what I should have expected, if you know what I mean. I still feel silly.
