3d printing

When it becomes cheaper and more mainstream,  will we be printing our own instruments?

Its a very interesting subject.
Why buy a new spare car part when you can print your own one?
Is it going to be like the internet downloading thing from ten years ago but on an even bigger scale?

it looks like that's where we're headed, but the money people are going to make sure the government passes laws to favor them and to criminalize most uses of it, without some prior paid consent.

I'm not sure it can "print" anything as durable as car parts. Just plastic and composite materials.

It's been used quite a bit in the model railway industry - almost anything can be printed but the results do require some fettling afterwards as you can see the "layers" left by the process.

I was watching a vid about it and the guy says its currently about the level of dot matrix printing... in a few years time where will it be!!
