SoundToys, formerly Wave Mechanics, showcased the second in its new line of plug-ins at the AES conference. This new line of SoundToys plug-ins called UltraFX, is aimed at bringing popular analog audio effects to the entire line of Pro Tools products.
The new UltraFX line will feature eight different plug-ins. The first to be released was FilterFreak, a digital plug-in that captures the sound of analog filtering, built around a super-steep 48dB per octave analog modeling filter. FilterFreak has many unique and powerful modulation features, including programmable rhythmic filtering, triggered envelopes, and tempo-controlled LFOs. FilterFreak is available for purchase now for $249. FilterFreak supports Digidesign's HTDM, RTAS and AudioSuite plug-in formats and Pro Tools HD, LE and Mix systems.
PhaseMistress is the second plug-in to be announced for the SoundToys product line and combines the warmth of analog phasing with tempo-locked modulation and programmable LFO's. Phasing was popularized in the '70s by Jimi Hendrix and continues to be one of the most distinctive and popular effects in the audio world. Available in the late fall, PhaseMistress features includes:
True stereo output
Programmable modulation modes
MIDI tempo synchronization for re-mix and dance music
Ability to design sweep shapes for infinite variations of filter sweep effects
Adjustable control of the intensity and depth of the phasing effect
Analog Emulation of input/output overdrive
