Under playback engine there is an option for DAE playback buffer. The defult is level 2, but I got a couple error messages with large amounts of tracks. I put it at level 4 with no issues. What is the diffrence? Should I raise it even more? What does it do?

the bigger the buffer the more delay...

The DAE Playback Buffer allocates the amount of system RAM the DAE will utilize. Level 4 is what I have been using, even with HD systems.
The H/W Buffer will effect latency. Lower number=less latency. Use the lowest possible for recording. Higher number=more latency. Use a higher number when mixing or needing to run many plug-ins.
