Hi, I just got a new ibook 12". I have the Griffin iMic and want to send in some guitar sounds from my the output of my Roland MicroCube. I need to convert the 1/4" output from the MicroCube to the 1/8" input of the iMic.

Should I get the $25 Griffin GarageBand Guitar Cable , or can I something just as good at Radio Shack for less money?

That amp output is NOT mic level, and could easily destroy the mic input of your computer.

Good thing the Roland MicroCube has a recording output on it. It is unlikely that it will destroy the input for your Griffin iMic.

The cable that Griffin is selling is just a 1/4" to 1/8" cable. If you look at the tips though, the 1/4" tip has one ring and the 1/8" has two. So, they are probably running the mono signal to both right and left channels on the one cable. You might be able to find something like this at Guitar Center, Radio Shack is a maybe. I say take a look around online for a similar cable at a lower cost. If you don't find anything, get the Griffin cable.

I use the iMic to record form head phone outputs all the time, never destroyed the computer yet. The cube's output is "rec/phones"
