Hi folks,

Right now I'm trying to choose between these two rackmount mixers for my live setup. Both would allow me to do what I need to do currently but I really don't know anything about the quality of either.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions!

If you want quality don't buy the Rolls.

Hey MC, So Rolls is inferior to Alesis in terms of sound/build quality? I guess I could have given a bit more context, huh? Basically I need a small mixer for an on-stage application. I need to send a handful of instruments/mics to a looping device.

Take a look at the Ashly MX-508. They are expensive new but I bought one less than a year old for $550. The 5 year warranty applies whether you bought it new or not.

Mark of Audiopile here sells a 6 channel rack mixer. His stuff
way better then what you linked to.

whataracket: That Ashly looks sweet. I'll keep an eye out for a used one... twostone: Mark's mixer is a sub-mixer. Too bad, because the price is right!

The alesis really isn't too bad of a unit. 3U, 8 mic pres. Crap EQ though, and 1 prefade aux and one pst fade. If that is all you need then go for it. Use it with a power amp and you have a heavier more expensive version of a powered mixer.

Thanks for the breakdown on the Alesis, Unalaska! When you say the EQ is crap do you mean in terms of versatility or sound? Or both?

Is there any other mixer in that size (2-3U) which you'd recommend instead?

If you have an application where you need mics mixed into any device, then what's wrong with the "sub" mixer from Audiopile? You can send one signal to the looping device and one to the main mixer.

I didn't see any input trim knobs so I just assumed it wasn't what I was looking for. Did I make an ass out of you and me?
