Anyone interested in grabbing dinner or something with other forum members here in Austin, Texas? Share stories, put a face to a name and get a little more specific about what we are doing here in town and what is going on.
I find myself wishing I could meet some of you guys (though most are pretty far off from here) so here's the invite. Let's find a good time and go grab a beer and a burger.

Turnout has actually been pretty awesome at the past 2 we've done. Lots of guys from here in town looking for work and looking for workers, good discussion and beers.
Anyone who is in town should make it a point to stop by and meet some others here, I know I've gotten several gigs out of it already.
I would say for those of you in other areas you should try something like this. I've gotten a lot of new connections to both hire and get hired by. It's paid for itself in spades and we are only on our third meeting.
We're about to do a speaker shoot out which I will make sure to post information and findings from.
The other part of our venture is to create some sort of certification/referral process. We are calling it ASE (Austin Sound Engineers) and basically it's both a group and method of communication for us to use for gig swapping and questions but also a logo you can put on your business cards to show that you know your stuff.
You get to use the logo when you get referred by 2 other members. This can be from previous experience with the prospect or you can request that we come see one of your shows and one of the current members will come give a little audit to make sure you are quality.
Pass that and now that logo tells people that you come at least somewhat recomended by others with the logo. So the credibility of one of us can help all of the others.
We will also be hosting a website with contact information and rig information for the various members. We won't do actual referals as an organization but will provide a source of information for those looking for a system and engineer
I looked them up and it looks like they played at Latitude 30 during SXSW. That's a bit away from where my 3 venues were but I'll try to remember to ask on Monday and see if anyone knows who was running there or went by and get you some thoughts on 'em.
I did end up working with lots of UK bands, also a bunch of Australian, German and French that week
